Hello there,
Jeska wrote: "2:30am PST: About a half hour ago we emptied out the grid and switched to Linden login only. We are currently investigating a potential exploit. I wanted to thank all of you for your patience on what has been a very long day."
Uhm... "investigating a potential exploit"? Is it a new exploit or the "old one" from last night (replicating objects given to citizens)? My sympathy to all the hard working Lindens... 2:30am... wow...
P.S.: LL, stop "open registration" to SL and thus grant a bit more sleep to your staff in the future.

Has anyone noticed that her forum avatar seems to look more and more depressed everytime she makes a post?
Okay that's it, I'm going to bed now. I'm seeing things.

I think it is to do with file permissions, i. e. all have become full permission enabled.........

I would guess it's a new exploit. If John is correct, I'm extremely glad LL took the grid down. Given the speed at which it was dropped, I'm thinking whatever it is was very serious. ~Jessy

Ouch! I hope you're wrong about that, John.
There was a bug a couple years back in an update that briefly caused all items inside vendors to go full perms. The results, as I'm sure you an imagine, were somewhat disastrous. LL fixed the problem pretty quickly, but not before a good deal of permanent damage had been done. Obviously, once an item goes full perms and someone gets a copy of it, there's no going back.
If the permissions system is once again in danger, there may be some dark skies ahead. I sure hope that's not what's going on.

If it was full perms inside vendors there was no danger to retailers - no one could use the blasted vendors because all the scripts have been disabled today

Hmm, I was just thinking further about the implications of retailer's stock going full perms.
I wonder where the Lindens would stand legally on this issue? A lot of people would stand to loose a lot of money. In-game shops are a strange, new concept, really.
I am going to have a closer look at the TOS - does any one know any websites with info about precedences/legalities of this type of retailing and the implications of such glitches?

If it could be proved that someone had taken advantage of this situation before the grid was pulled, I assume the Lindens would do some sort of role-back to rectify that. A friend has just informed me (nervously) that just before the grid went down, someone was buying up nearly all her skin textures. She was just about to go and have a look at their perms when the Lindens pulled the plug. Her textures are Copy/Mod. Obviously, if someone now has them full perms they could seriously threaten her, currently thriving, business

I seriously hope that it's not true about the full perm. It would partly ruin the work i did if I sell something, and somebody else is selling it because it is full permit, maybe even give away.... yes, if this is true, dark skies will come. I was this mornign at school and haven't monitored my vendors..... but if this is all true and some lunatic just actually came buy and bought everything.... EEEEK !!!! And the sim was up before they took off all the scripts... so I dunno anymore what to think....

Permission bug detected

Holy Cow! quote: " 5:30am PST: We’ve created a patch for the exploit, which involved a permissions bug, ..."I am curious to know what exactly it was. We'll come to know after the Lindens got some sleep

... Does it mean ALL items have become full perms ? Or just the ones that were copied or transferred within the "window of opportunity" ? Hopefully all the permissions have been rolled back (including on the items that were stuffed up), and any transfers or copies have been rolled back as well.
