today in cordova sandbox there was a large invisible mega prim. it covers most of the sand box. it was 204 metres high. i was stuck on top of it along with a couple of other people. it is not selectable so one can not see who it belongs too. this has happened more than once. yesterday was a giant round one on sandbox island. has any one else encounterd one of this things ? is there some way to visualise it ?

Have you tried turning on "highlight transparent"? I think it's in the Edit menu.

Doing that will turn transparent things a cloudy red, and make it so you can select them.

Maybe a mega-prim made into a sculpty - and then an alpha texture used as the *sculpt* texture. I understand that it becomes invisible, as opposed to transparent. A griefer's dream!

hallo...thank you for your suggestions. i tried everything from seeing invisible to wire frame. all i know is it was huge and you can even build on top of it. i could sit on a cube, and move my self down through it but when i stand up....i float right back up to 204 metres. stop flying and i land on this 'thing'. my feet shadows even shows up on it. i could do any thing but select it. very confusing.

I have seen these many times before. Simply right-click the object, select edit...no name will show up. Leave edit mode up and right click the object again but do not select anything from the pie menu and you will see the name of the owner. If you click something on the pie menu the name disappears due to the fact that the distance from you to the center of the object is too large..just like trying to edit something too far from your avi. Once you get the name, make sure to AR the owner of the object since Megaprims are Ar-able offences when used on mainland and in sandboxes.

As I understood they are okay on mainland as long as they aren't causing problems.
Sandboxes I could see how they could be misused and ar able.

I saw them - right clicking didn't work at all. Show alpha, Control Alt T, didn't work at all. So far as I could tell, they were totally unseeable and unselectable.

I can't make a prim larger than 10m in any dimension. How do people manage to make them bigger?

It came from a client hack by a group of coders before the client went open source. In other words, it was a ToS violation, but because several Lindens were in the group, nothing was done about it.

You can get some sets of 'megaprims' up to 65536x65536m but all you can do is cut, twist and colour them - not actually resize them.

I have, on many occasions, asked Linden Lab to remove the 10m restriction because they have so many great legitimate uses (as well as, sadly, the grief opportunity), but so far that has been ignored. I don't understand why people using their own hacked (and at the time against the rules) clients can get away with using megaprims, but those of us who use the official SL viewer suffer.

You can't. All those dinosaurs are leftovers from the old days where you were able to. They just don't get extinct any time soon.

LOL...no i did not drink any magic drinks. and there is a new twist to it...yesterday in cordova, i met with one of this mystery prims that has a ramp. i was able to walk up and down the ramp to the top of the prim. i would give you a photographic reference but......there is nothing to photograph unless it is me standing in mid air ? also, i could move a little bit forward by making some twist and turns with my avatar like following some kind of twisty corridor and i had to make the reverse turns to get out. i know....i need a can of spray paint to mark my way ! maybe then you will not think i am intoxicated :)

As I stated before, yes you can. I do it often. Right-click the object, select edit, then right click the object once more. You will see the owner, creator and group info on the edit window, but it will disappear the second you click anything else. It is a bit tricky but absolutely it can be done as I do it all the time.

They are called "huge prims" and they can be bought in-world or acquired for free (or ok, sometimes L$1, don't pay any more) on SLExchange. There are more than 185 of them in existence, though you may have to go to more than one source to collect them all. They can be very useful, and I wish Broccoli had more success in getting LL to budge. They can also be used to grief, as can almost anything in SL.
