Some things that really need to be dealt with.

Accountability has to be #1. You should not be able to get into SL without some form of identification, so that sanctions are meaningful. Everything I've been saying about anonymous accounts for the past few months needs to be taken seriously, OK? The problems in SL aren't griefers, pirates, texture thieves, traffic, bandwidth... these are symptoms. The problem is accountability.

Reality check: this is not an exploit that LL can close, it's an inherent part of any client-server technology. ANYTHING sent to the client can be read by the client. As an example: SL is full of textures ripped from other 3d games. And you know, almost nobody's complained about that, and those of us who refuse to use the "evil8" textures and others ripped from games get funny looks.

And finally, many content creators in SL (including some of the ones who are complaining about copybot) have been taking GPLed software and using it no-mod in no-mod objects: this is a violation of the GPL. Get your own house in order. And if you're the author of GPLed software and this is OK with you, then you need to find a different license because the GPL doesn't mean what you think it means.
