I have been using notecards to squirrel away information that I stumble upon, but Know I will forget if I don't write it down. What I would like to know - is there a way to do any of the following to text in a notecard:

- Use Bold, Italic or Underline text?
- Insert a 'hyperlink' to another notecard in my inventory
- Insert a hyplerlink to open up a web site in my PC's browser (out of viewer)

Any other tricks for notecards, besided just typing raw text, would be very much appreciated!

Thanks in adavance,

Hello Dak.

As far as I know you cannot hyperlink on notecards or use text formatting.

What you CAN do besides raw text is:

Drag a landmark directly onto them. (Make your own personal hotlists)

Drag textures directly onto them. I have not had luck getting more then a few at a time on each notecard but that could be something I am doing wonky. :D

I hope that helps. :)

Actually, while this is probably correct, the system is not quite this simple. This appears to create a new notecard, and link to the new notecard, not to the old notecard. Specifically, when you edit the old notecard in inventory, the embedded notecard does not change, and when you edit and save the embedded notecard, the old notecard in inventory does not change. Also, we are told that every time an edited notecard is saved, it really creates a new notecard and "forgets" the old one, which still takes up space on the asset server, until it gets "garbage collected".

The best example of showing what all you can do with notecards is Player's Magazine. Player's is more or less the Playboy of Second Life. Just use search to find the Player's Shack and then go buy an issue - I think they're $85L. Lots of linking to other notecards, nudie pic links, etc.

I buy it just for the articles, of course. But whatever reason you buy it for, it's a great example of what all you can do.

Find a style for your formatting and stick with it. You can link other note cards, but you have to link new versions if you change them, but unless you're managing a lot of data that should be ok.

My personal formatting rules are pretty basic.

*asterix for 'bold' text*
_underline for italic/emphasized_

# This is a title!
## This is a sub title

But work out something that works for you.

Also, you *might* be able to attach an object on your hud and then store your notecards that need quick access there, just right click on the object and choose the conents tab and you can edit the contents ... I think. Attachments act funny when edited.

See, you people just Rock! That is why I love this place. Thank you all, now Im gonna go have fun with notecards. (Ya, ya, Im easily amused. My mom used to keep me occupied by giving me her recipie cards to alphabetize - and that was when I was 34!)

:)

Thanks again,
