I really like this zooming in so I don't have to see the back of my head all the time, but why cant I build in this view? Or can I? Really frutsrating cause my stupid head is always in the way. Hm, big head = big brain? Maybe not this time. Pls advice.

I zoom using this method: Hold Alt key down Center mouse pointer over the area I want to zoom in on Press & hold left mouse button down Push/pull mouse to the right zoom. This also works moving sideways. It's called (i believe) "camming". A

...and add the "ctrl" key for even more camera control.

If you dont' care whether you see your avatar at all, or other people's avatars, do Client Render Types Character and you won't see yourself.
It would be nice to be able to build in mouseview.

You can also do a gesture like "sleep", which I just gave you, which get's your av's head out of the way.
You can also fiddle with two debug settings, CameraOffsetDefault and FocusOffsetDefault, to help get your head out of the camera's way.
And you can create a cube, sit on it, turn it upside down, and set it's z position to zero. Then you can't see yourself and your camera is above the ground in a reasonably useful place.

Become proficient with ALT-zoom (as Abba described) and combinations of ALT, CTRL, SHIFT while moving your mouse, to move the cam around. Then it doesn't really matter where you're standing.

what diaq said ... but shift? does that do anything? I've just used Alt/mouse and Ctrl/Alt/mouse.

Been testing around a bit now. I've used ALT before but probably been too impatient to really get used to it. It was probably the combo of using CTRL and ALT I was missing. Works great! And thx a lot for the sleep thingy And other tips as well.

From: bilbo99 Emu what diaq said ... but shift? does that do anything? I've just used Alt/mouse and Ctrl/Alt/mouse. Control Alt Shift + arrows lets you pan your view. Information on the camera controls is available in the F1 help information, Home/Basic Help/Camera Controls. Subject, of course, to change with each new version, and probably outdated already.

I use a "camera follower". The idea is I am basically sitting on the camera. Using the camera controls I zip, zoom, fly and everything else and stay behind the camera. I find it very useful. I have seen a couple in world, but the search as it is, don't know if they could be found. The one I use is a part of MystiTool Hud which can be purchased in world and at SLX or SLB.
