Bands across Avatar?

Is anyone else having a problem with bands of strange textures striping across their avie? This started with the current patch and rebaking, changing clothes or skins, clearing cache and anything else I can think of have no effect. The bands go away for a few seconds if I rebake but then come right back. I have bug reported this numerous times.

It has gotten me so frustrated with the amount of L$ and time I've spent on my avie's appearance to look my best that I hardly want to be seen anymore.

After working for more than 30 minutes with a newbie that had the same problem we came up with a fix. Copy one of the default shapes from the library to your inventory and wear that. Then replace outfit with your "problem" skin. It worked for them.

It's a client bug, the texture cache gets a hiccup and bakes environmental textures into your avatar texture - house walls, trees, whatever happens to be around. Ctrl + Alt + D (to get the Client menu entry), then "Client" --> "Character" --> "Rebake Texture" often fixes this. If not, click "Clear Cache" in the Network tab of your preferences and relog.

If you had read my post you would see that I have tried all that with no effect.

I have had the same problem for almost five weeks. None of the Linden solutions helped. The one that works for me -- and it my take a few tries -- is to clear cache, log off and reboot. This seems to work but sometimes it takes a few tries. The lady who made my skin suggested. A couple of rebakes and it goes away -- until the next time. Very frustrating.

I have reported this to Linden and there is another thread in here discussing it. I think is called blue bands.

If I had a texture problem as you describe and the usual tips don't work, I'd look into what graphic card was being used and how current were the drivers.
The fact that a reset/rebake cures it for a short time might imply that a later level of detail is just overloading the device?

We are dealing with 2 separate issues. One is the old bug that bakes browser window information and background imagery onto the avatar. The other is a fairly new feature or bug, depending upon how you want to look at it. SL apparently has a residual memory for the textures last applied to specific avatar shapes. Change the shape and you can also change texture to the last baked texture of that shape independently, whether you updated that texture or not.

I have been using this feature/bug to my advantage to test multiple textures on the fly (several makeup options side by side). Instead of changing the settings for each makeup option in Photoshop, I use the client side color layer "hack" (another well documented bonus feature) to load up multiple shapes with textures I want to test. Toggling between shapes allows me to view multiple textures on the avatar without the need to rebake or save new textures to the client side color layers.

For folks having texture issues on clothing or skins they have bought, the shape solution mentioned previously in combination with the "Rebake Textures" menu button should update the avatar textures properly.

This feature/bug is interesting because it almost seems to be a first step towards generalized texture layers. Take this three steps further by adding transparent layers, the ability to retain the previous underlying texture, a way of controling the sequence of layering, and you essentially have generalized texture layers!

What a strange coincidence: just last night I was zipping through a sequence of demo skins and suddenly realised when I went back one to re-check, it was instantaneous. Gobsmacked is too gentle a superlative LOL .. it is a superlative? ;)

This bug/feature has potential, both good and bad. I actually hope LL makes it go away or quickly or adapts to whatever they have tweaked out of alignment. It only serves to confuse most people from what I can see.
