.... I haven't logged into SL in any meaningful way in more than a month. And I don't miss it. Sadness.... So how do you get the interest back when you go through a bout of disinterest? *sighs* And how long do these periods last?

Open a conference to all your friends and calling cards and tell them you're back.
You'll be surprised at the number of people who missed you.

i was in a funk lately s/l seems same ole thing and was trying to figure out how to make it a new game again so here is what i started today to make it a new game for me at least i no longer fly without a vehicle. I dont force the sun ever. i walk and try to limit my teleporting when there is a linden road (isnt always an option) and just today i started playing in mouselook even went so far as to buy a mouslook addin to my collar that blacks the screen if im not in mouselook so far it has been like playing a different life (game which ever you prefer your second life to be) but thats what has helped me i played longer today than i have in a long time )

From: Brenda Connolly Enjoy your freedom while it lasts. *snicker* My very thoughts. Seriously though... a game I sometimes play when I'm too braindead to be productive in SL is: type something in SEARCH (i.e. beautiful, pretty, kitty, waterfall, garden etc.) and see what comes up. Scroll the bottom (because popularity doesn't mean a thing), and work your way up teleporting to some of the results of your search. It's a good way to meet new people. Another game is to bring up the map and scroll around until you find a hugely populated area and just TP in. Ya never know what yer gonna find! Good luck. Oh, and you can come to my neko shrine and play with the kitty toys! ha ha.

It is very healthy to take 'time off' from online worlds from time to time. Without time away, permanent 'burn-out' becomes a threat. Don't rush it. If you return, you return, if not... well, hopefully whatever is keeping you away is more entertaining and rewarding. I've returned to SL after extended absences around 3 times now... I get all excited and re-engaged for several months and then wander off again. Maybe it's seasonal.

I left for quite a few months..but I'm now back in action. Don't remember how it started, I think it was mostly the sculpty prims, that and I missed collecting avatars...

I must confess I am burned out but what keeps me here is my friends and creating even though sometimes I feel my creations will never be very good.

From: Brenda Connolly Enjoy your freedom while it lasts. Thank you for making me spill my coffee Brenda. Again. She's right though. I remember being very lost and lonely after a three month non-consensual hiatus (thanks British Telecom, I still resent you). I bearly get time to do anything now, but I put on my profile a comment about this very thing. Just go map hopping ... join some new groups or whatever. If you're REALLY desperate drop me an IM ... but that would need some terrible desperation to inflict me on yourself

Something that I've had difficulty adjusting to in SL is not having a decent first person view. I would LOVE to know where you purchased the addin...and does it keep first person view on. (And hopefully I can put it someplace besides a collar *grins*) Thank you for that info!!! Maybe I can stop griping about that now...lol

Take a break from SL for a month or two. Afterwards it will likely be interesting again.

I have been playing over a year, and I have yet to lose interest
when I do, I will stop playing and not look back, such is the way with me
I play a game, eventually I tire of it and never go back.
(I doubt this will happen to me with SL though, cuz to me SL is more than just a game, and even after a year+ of playing I STILL have so much to learn!!)

I owe Mandy about a dozen, along with a few Dr Peppers. I have RL induced breaks from SL that last a couple of days, no biggie. I don't know how a forced break would affect me such as yours, but RL still takes front seat. I guess I would survive, for it is just entertainment for me, I imagine I will lose interest somewhere down the line. I actually find it harder to not log in here than into the game, I guess I'm that big a blabbermouth.

Well the real problem wasn't so much loss of SL for three months ... t was loss of internet and phone line in a basement flat of a Georgian house which wouldn't get a mobile phone signal either. Talk about feeling back in the dark ages! Come over to mine for a coffee Brenda

Thank you for that info!!! Maybe I can stop griping about that now...lol No need for a collar or an add-in... If you have a wheel mouse - roll the wheel all the way forward - you'll pop into mouse view (first person view) - to pop-out again - just roll the mouse wheel back again. You can also select it from the view menu menu or press the M key on your keyboard. When in mouseview, pressing ESC Key (escape) will also quickly return you to the overhead 'normal' view.

That's what I've been doing - even took a class in ^ASL^ on Walking and Flying to see if there was a more precise way to use first person view. I used to play EverQuest and the first person view there was wonderful. SL mouse view/first person is just not as sophisticated - which really surprises me. Or maybe I'm just picky *grins*

(little known ? ) SL secret.. sit on a prim edit it to rotate pitch, ayw, L/R now goto mouselook and voila new pespective.
another trick(pain in the arse ifn ya ask me) put a coloured translusent prim as a hud that covers your whole viewport (rose coloured glasses.( you won't be able to click any in world items)

From: FD Spark I must confess I am burned out but what keeps me here is my friends and creating even though sometimes I feel my creations will never be very good. Ah, don't worry. No artist ever, ever thinks there stuff is good. Its the pain of being an artist. I get out of it by purposely creating something really bad..creepy shapes, colours, etc. It can free you from your limits. Or create something from a random trigger. Don't try to make something good, just play. Good luck and welcome to the club.
