How to turn off a neighbor's shouting object?

Sorry if this is an old topic. I searched but didn't find it.

I wanted to buy some land in Sim A but immediately noticed that a club in the next Sim had a loud money 'sploder shouting every 5 seconds. It has to be 40 meters or more from the parcel I want to buy, still there it is, clear as a bell.

So I IMed the club owner and asked him if he could lower the volume or keep it on his sim. I know I was polite. I haven't heard back from him yet. Is there a fix I could suggest to him, in case he simply doesn't know how to fix the volume?

I know the practical answer is "don't move in next to the club," but it's not even in the same sim and the plot I like is perfect for me. I know nearby sims with clubs can still affect my sim's performance, but holy cow! If I try to find a mainland plot not near a club, I'll be forever homeless.

And if I ever open up a club, I would like to know how to be the good neighbor. How do you keep that noise just in the club itself?

You can't turn it off, but if you go into your chat history, you can mute it.

However, unfortunately, Linden introduced a new bug so that mutes only last so long as you are logged on. Once you log out/crash/red zone... the mute is lost and you will need to re-mute.

Hopefully they will fix this soon and restore mutes to able to be retained.

create a prim that activates on the shouting prim and make it shout back something like "turn that damn object off" or something

And now we have two shouting objects, when the goal is zero shouting objects.

Muting the offending object is the best solution. As far as asking the owner to turn down the volume, he/she may not actually have the ability to do so, unless the sploder is written to give them that option. Most likely it's hard coded in the script to use llShout(). There might be a notecard or command line setting the owner can use to change this to llSay(), which might be sufficient for the space the club is on, and keep from annoying neighbors..

AR the creator and owner of the object for being broadly offensive.

I have the same problem, but it's a Lucky Prize Chair the neighbor owns, that shouts every five minutes. Which, I mute, but it's a little annoying since my property is a shop and I am sure it causes confusion for visitors. She does it on purpose too, I guess it's a marketing strategy, who knows. My suggestion, don't move next to this property.

I have never tried to check this out but...

in about land there is a media tab with an option to Restrict spatialized sound to this parcel. According to the knowledge base... Checking this means that sounds from outside the parcel don't enter, and sounds from inside the parcel don't leave.

maybe you can politely ask the club owner to try this? or try setting it yourself on your land?

*snorts and grins* You don't have to AR them for that reason. Just AR them for sound spam, which is well enough, if you don't get a response from them in a couple of days.

This just mutes actual audio like the sounds of waterfalls and vehicles. It does not affect written text.

Isn't this much the same as RL, when your neighbours play loud music and shout at eachother/other people all the time?
Very little you can do about this in RL, it's the same in SL, you can only apeal to their sense of community, but profit verses community drive some people more than others and harmony evaporates.
Now with the introduction of llRegionSay function, it can only get worse for those that are only interested in their own personal motives for being in SL.

Perhaps when a fucntion is part of the programme, a way to limit that on other land, should have been introduced, much the same way we have ban, no objects etc controls.. banning outside sound would be utopia.. having to get other people to restrict their actions that effect those around them, is bad planning.
