After having been a part of SL for two months, I've noticed that interaction with groups and others is a sort of "pseudo-roleplay" among normal interactions. On the other hand, there is actual roleplay which tends to be rather specific, themed, and isolated.

What I am looking for is a roleplay group that takes SL for face-value without boundaries of theme, sort of a cross between the normal SL experience and a role-play experience. It would have plot, in-character interaction and so forth, and perhaps incorporate building as well. Does anyone know of such a group?

You mean a group where everyone would treat the SL universe as a role-playing world? Ie, if you have a fairy avatar, you actually are a fairy, and all the crossover that happens in SL regions is a natural and expected part of the Universe?

I'm not aware of any such one. Most of the ones that work have to be fairly tightly controlled, because otherwise you get too many princesses and not enough subjects. :)

Hi Aminom, I don't know of a group that you describe. The plot aspect is the real limiting one here I think. I find many characters in-world are by their own definiton role-playing.
I was sorry to note last night that one of my favourite fantasy areas has gone. SL is changing all the time.
Plot aside I'm sure you could find like minded people just by meeting and exchanging ideas.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. I keep meaning to find the Tolkein areas and have a look round but am just so busy partying and shopping LOL

Most RP groups I know do their best to ignore the "reality" of SL except as OOC references. Personally, I think there's scope for a happy mean where the details of living in SL are acknowledged within the scope of rp-ing a particular theme, be it Tolkieneque fantasy, Espionage, or whatever. Trying too hard to ignore SL mechanics can make things too stilted.

free form types tend to be so free form they don't form groups!

If you want to do that kind of thing, just start doing it in the middle of a conversation. If I meet sexy furries, for instance, I make a fuss about staying away from them because my av is in a latex catsuit and I say I'm worried the static from rubbing up against them will blow my laptop.

leads off in all sorts of handy directions, that one

LOL visions of avatars being zapped into orbit left, right and centre!!

Well, me and my RL chum sat on our SL pub wall the other day with beer mugs puting the world to rights, trying not to be too obvious watching the girls go by ...... er ... just like we used to do in RL before we moved three counties apart.

I wish I knew of such a group, that does sound fun! :D

I have this game where it asked me to roleplay myself during a sim crash. Great fun!

Since this doesn't seem to exist, I'm going to see about starting a roleplay group along these lines. It definitely needs some sort of framework for it to function; perhaps the general theme would be exploration with plots developing from such. Thing is, I don't have the proper organization and leadership qualifications. If anyone thinks the idea would be fun or has a similar idea and is good at getting role-playing groups started, IM me in-world :)

You might want to check out the Caledon sims. ;>

The RP is "light" and not particularily violent, but it does feel rather homey and they'll accept almost anyone. ;)

Actually I am fairly new and a huge roleplayer. So I take SL like a game of Rifts. Each area is its own verse but we can move between. Sometimes we fall through and others our mage sends us. So in each land we learn the rules and laws.

Makes it fun and so we roleplay the whole thing all the time. But as for a group no. Just friends enjoying SL in our own fantasy. Good luck finding your niche.

I don't use SL to roleplay persay its just more about making friends, creating but I have had this story ideal as part of roleplay but its hit and miss at best.
