I have an AO (in this case an Amethyst collar) and some of the poses cause me to float above the ground. Whilst in some circles this can impress, it is not the kind of impression I want to give.
How do I go about fixing it, if possible?

You probably can't. This is usually a result of the hip height not being correct for a given avatar, but I've also heard that the new physics engine has been causing it too.

Others will chime in with more competent answers- but first thought is unless it is modifiable u won't be able to- simply because you have to change the parameters of the script that determines the coordinates of the avi. I know cause I have adjusted some dance balls like that but they were modifiable. However- perhaps there is something in the note card that explains how to customize for a particular avi?

It might be worth an im to the creator to see if he/she has a fix for your problem.

SD lol, I completely understand. If the poses are copyable, you could try dragging them into Inventory and running them from there, just to see if it's an actual animation problem or something else. A LOT of the poses in those types of collars are freebies though, and perhaps not as well made as others you might find. You might consider replacing them if you still find yourself hovering when played from inventory.

No notecard instructions I have seen - pretty sure the answer to that is no. And, just checked, no modify.

Unfortunately it won't be modifiable in an AO, even if the animations are modify (the only thing you can really change in that case is the name).
The usual culprit is animations intended for use in pose balls that make their way into AOs. For AOs one has to worry about positioning inside the animation itself, but that is often ignored for furniture since the difference can be made up with the sit target. To fix it you would really want replacement animations. Most of the vendor preview things out there also use sit targets, so it's not easy to see ahead of time if the replacement would be an improvement.

Yes it is pretty dire out there =) In defense of animators and builders who use animations, most of the quirks haven't really been documented by LL. Most of the information out there was worked out by residents, it's scattered all over the place, and some of that information is out of date or inaccurate. So, everyone making stuff has to learn the hard way.
