I've been lurking here for months, sympathizing with those who've lost inventory in a way only those who haven't can, thinking it'll never happen to me. But I've never seen this scenario. The (imo) expensive chimera with all the expensive dances I had in it is now all of a sudden not attached anywhere on my avatar, and is not anywhere in my inventory. I don't understand? Ugh. Now I understand how all those people claiming "this is the last straw" feel. ugh. any ideas where it went? I searched my property with the "highlight transparent" on. I haven't used it in a few days, but I would notice it on my head from time to time when I clicked on my avatar, now, nothing. Nothing else appears to be missing. I've logged in and out a couple of times now. Any ideas?

Is it possible you dropped it somewhere?

Us the search function to search your inventory, you may have accidently clicked it and dragged it into another folder.
Clear the cache and relog, reinstall SL.
I've had things in my inventory that I can only see when I log in on a different computer.

Thanks for all the tips, I reloged 3 or 4 times now, I did the search inventory over and over and over and over, I searched my property for transparent and "physical" items. But one more question.... how exactly do I clear my cache? I'm on a mac, and I see the cache folder, it has a bunch of stuff in it, do I just trash it all? Because none of the items appears to refer specifically to SL in their name.

There should be a button in preferences menu to clear cache.

Inventory search is bugged. (Go figure.) Myself and many others have found searching fails to show results even when searching for objects we can find by opening folders. eg Search is not a valid means of saying something is gone from your inventory.
If you can remember where in your inventory you kept your chim, look there manually.
Also, keep checking your Lost and Found folder for a possible Returned item.
Due to the ||GiveInventory bug of sending things to seperate folders, this ~may~ have trickled over to attachments. Check Objects folder as this would be the default folder for a chim.
Good luck ~Jessy

I sympathize with you..... as someone who lost an AO with a lot of expensive, no-copy poses and animations loaded on it. This happened the first week of December. Despite following every piece of advice offered to me here and in game, the inventory still has not been recovered. LL has a, shall we say, "lax" attitude about the importance of inventory protection. I sincerely hope your experience turns out better.

I lost an AO I bought too but it turned out to be in the contents area of my floor! Sometimes these things wander into the prims around us so maybe check out the content menu of the various pieces of furniture etc. in your house. A friend of mine lost his video player and it was in the floor too so its worth a look.
Good luck

I lost an attachment, a dance chime, about a year ago. Looked everywhere, did the whole clear cache thing, but after a week, I finally gave up and bought a new one. Well, the next update rolled out around three weeks later, and back it came, in it's proper folder, right next to the new one I had. Turned out there was a bug at the time that ate the inventory list, but the update might have fixed it. Fortunately, it was transfer and so were the dances in it, so I gave it to a friend I hope you find your attachment and I hope the process of finding it doesn't drive you too crazy.
