I just won an auction for a sim. (Yay!) So I immediately went to the Auction Details page, hit 'Pay Now' and immediately got a 'Transaction Failed' message. (Boo!) I had already cleared this purchase with my credit card company (something I've done several times with them for big SL purchases and it's always worked), so I was pretty sure that wasn't the issue. I also knew my billing information was up-to-date, because the Lab sure charges me a pretty penny on it every month. Anyway, just for the heck of it I went to the Update Payment Method page for my account, and was a little disturbed to see the following: From: someone We do not have credit card information on file for your account. You must add a credit card to your account by updating your payment information below. Be sure to click the Save Changes button when you are done. Ack! I figured the futzing they'd been doing with the billing system had something to do with it, so I re-entered the card data. Went back to Auction Details, and tried Pay Now again. Failed. (Of course this is before I ran across this lovely nugget.) Anyway, tried to update my billing info once more, but now I'm getting THIS message: From: someone Sorry, no access was possible.
One of the following errors might have occurred:
1) An error occurred in the communication between the shop and the payment platform. 2) Your session expired due to the time no interaction has taken place. 3) Your order was not accepted (e.g. due to a double order). And the thing is, the way the Update Billing thing works, when you click the button to update, it wipes out your current billing info. So at this point, I have no credit card on file, Linden Lab won't LET ME put a card on file (even though my card company knows I'm making this purchase), and the Lab is going to bill me for it within 24 hours if I don't get this figured out soon. (And yes, I've definitely contacted support about this.) So, any other auction winners hitting this same thing? (Another note: I don't have any USD in my SL account, so it was all coming out of my credit card. It's how I've always done these things.) If I'm not the only person hitting this problem, please consider this a heads-up until the work with the billing system is complete.

I actually linked to that in my original post. =) EDIT: Also, that blog listing describes what to expect after updating your billing info, but says nothing about your billing info getting blown away without my intervention to begin with, which mine apparently was.

It's very disturbing that LL has said absolutely nothing publicly about the disappearing credit card information or the totally borked payment update process. The blog post linked in the post above says absolutlely nothing about this very seriouis issue. Missing credit card data is a critical issue. The fact that LL has been totally silent on this is disturbing. Recall that when there was a major security breach last year LL said NOTHING about it for several days after it had been discovered. *************

They haven't been quiet, requests take time to process. blogFrom: Blog As we perform hardware upgrades, some residents will also encounter some lag between the time they input their payment data and the time it will be live and available for use. Currently, delays are as long as 30-minutes. We anticipate the lag do reduce to the 2-3 minute range by Friday. While we do not anticipate a need for residents to re-input the payment data, if it is not showing as available for use by Friday, it may be necessary to do so.
It's a sucky situation, nothing we can do about so not worth worrying.

The blog post says absolutely nothing respecting the fact that all valid existing payment/credit card information is missing. It speaks of entering new payment information. It says nothing about valid payment information that has been on file for months or years that now can not be accessed/found. .

But again, strife, that post only talks about what happens when you actually update your info. In my case, and the previous poster's case apparently, we both already HAD valid credit info and it vanished.

In my case, and the previous poster's case apparently, we both already HAD valid credit info and it vanished. . There are several posts on the blog by other residents who are experiencing the same issue. It would be reassuring if LL made some sort of statement acknowledging their awareness of and/or explaining the problem. WE are talking about complete payment information: Credit Card Numbers/Security Codes/Name/Address/eMail Address/Telephone Numbers . If it's missing, Where Did It Go ??????????????? . I don't know if it's something to be concerned about or not. LL should let us know the story. It is irresponsible for them not to. Absent that , because of the potential for fraudulent use of my credit card accounts and/or identity theft, absent an explanation it is only prudent to assume the worst. Rather than trying to spin an irrelevant blog post to explain away the problem, it would be more appropriate for someone in a position to do so to advise the powers that be at LL about the issue and of our concerns. Respectfully, Valerie . .

An update. My credit card company DID block the transaction last night, but it wasn't because of the amount (they still had my authorization on file)- they said it was because Linden Lab had provided them incomplete security info in the transaction attempt, so the card company thought that someone was fraudulently trying to pretend they were Linden Lab.
Now this is a significant problem, and I reckon it wouldn't apply to just me.
This also means that even though the web site said I didn't have a credit card on file, I really did. (Of course I don't now, because the Update Billing Info system barfed after it truly DID wipe out my info.)

No, it sounded like the transaction that came to my bank over the wire was missing some identifying code or key that would have proven it was really Linden Lab making the request. I have since heard from other people who even had small transactions (one person tried buying $25.00 in L) blocked by their card companies yesterday for the same reason. Still no response from support and no updates on the blog about it.

Well I just had a partial success/failure in attempting to update my payment info and buy Lindens. First I got the Page telling me that I had no payment information on file despite the fact that I have had valid and working payment information on file. Then I got the "Delete Old Info File New Payment Info " page YAY! I filled in my "new" payment information and then got the page telling me that my update succeeded! YAY YAY !! Then I went to buy some lindens and THSHTF ;-O. Got an error message saying the transaction could not go through. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Brother Can You Spare Some Lindens ? Is there something like methadone for us shopaholics????? .

(Hidden from us) Surely LL knows about this. SO: Why can't they fix it ???????????????? Why have they not stated anything publicly about this ????????? If it's simply a matter of the transaction program not printing LL's security code, that seems to be something that could have been fixed very quickly. Does this have anything to do with the internet gambling laws?? Any merchant involved with gambling is required to show on every transaction whether or not it is for internet gambling. Has there been a major security breach and LL has not or is unwilling to comply with all of the requirements imposed upon a merchant who has had such a breach? Sorry but LL's silence on this very significant issue has required that I take my tin foil hat out of storage. .
