Hiya everyone... I have a problem... last night when i was in game.. my sound was fine.. i could listen to music streams, hear gestures, etc... I logged in today to a silent world. No matter what i do, i cannot get the sound to work.. YET.. I am on TeamSpeak as I write this, i have sound for that. I removed SL TWICE and reinstalled...didn't fix it... does anyone here have any idea what I should do to get the sound back in game?

Check your volume controls. Right click on volume icon on Taskbar and choose Open Volume Contol. Once open, make sure none of your controls is set to MUTE. I think your Wave control may be set to MUTE.

It might be worth checking the UI Preferences audio setting in case something decided to change itself.

This may be unrelated to your issue, of course, but I had a similar problem. Between sessions of SL I had opened an mp3 with RealPlayer (my machines default mp3 player); thinking nothing of it I continued doing my thing....
Next time I loaded SL I found I could no longer hear music streams. Sound effects (HUD sounds, IM alerts, etc) were fine, but no music. I did a search on these and other forums to no avail. Anyhow, I thought perhaps that listening to those mp3s was the culprit; I closed SL, opened Windows Media Player and used it to listen to some music; closed WMP and re-opened SL.... voila! Fixed.
Could be coincidence, but worth a try since it takes just a few seconds.
Hope that helps you or someone with a similar issue.

It would of been nice if you told us if you are running Windows, Mac or Linux I have had this problem on my Mac, so on the off chance you're on Mac too here was the solution I found. There is an on going OSX bug that causes some applications to be unable to initialise the sound subsystem (I had it happen just recently when I upgraded to 10.4.9) the solution is to run GarageBand, then quit it and run Second Life. It seems that GarageBand does a full reset of the sound subsystem - something that no number of reboots or power cycles is able to do (makes no sense to me either). I believe Apple have a knowledge base article on it somewhere, they too are stumped by what is causing it. Cheers, Jeb

Sorry I forgot to mention that I am running Windows XP.. the end result of my "SL Trama" was..... I needed to update my drivers, etc. All the updates I did were things I never thought about. My SL partner and SL Brother are the ones that walked me through everything.. after a million updates and numerous restarts SL is running better than it ever did! ( Maybe I need to learn a little more about my computer )
Anyway... thank you all for the tips, advice etc....... have a great weekend!!!!! *waves*
