Need has nothing to do with it
![]() You might find it nice to have a place of your own, though. Build a house on it. Didn't you have any idea what to do with it when you bought it? |

I have a premium account and have 512 sq meters of land - what can you do with this? Do i need it? If you buy land from someone, the first 512m2 is 'free' in monthly tier-fees. If you own more land, you have to pay Linden. More information on this page of the second life website: http://www.secondlife.com/whatis/landpricing.php If you rent land from someone, or buy land from someone who owns islands (for example dreamland), this 512m2 'free' land does not count. If you need it.... I don't know ![]() |

The land itself did not come with your membership. Only the option to own it came with your membership. You still need to go out and find, and -purchase- the land.

Do you need land? Well, there are some benefits:
* a place to call 'home'. In SL that means you can designate it as a place you log into, other than wherever you were at when you last logged out. It's also a place you'd get teleported to, if you ran into trouble, i.e. got teleported home from a security bot or damage-enabled land. Much nicer arriving on familiar territory, than a crowded welcome center. * a place where you can build stuff. Quieter than a sandbox and with less interuption. * a place where you make the rules. * a quiet place where you can meet friends As others have pointed out, what you get 'free' is not the land itself but the 'land usage fees'... it's sort of like a monthly land tax. Your premium account allows you to hold up to 512m of land without paying any additional monthly fees. However, unfortunately, you do still have to find and purchase the land. Last time I looked, the price of land on the mainland was around L$6500 or so. That's around US$25 or 26 I believe. So there'd be an outlay of money, but after that, the land is yours completely, and there would not be any other ongoing fees since your premium membership covers that. The only thing to be wary of is if you were to 'buy' and on a private island, that is a whole different set-up and your 'free' 512m does not count there. So if you do choose to buy land where your 512m 'free' tier is applicable, use the 'mainland only' option in the land search window. Good luck and have fun! -Atashi _____________________

I have a premium account and have 512 sq meters of land - what can you do with this? Do i need it? During your early days of residency, you're probably better off renting a nice little place somewhere (mainland or island) until you've had a taste for what you enjoy doing in SL. You may find that you don't really want or need to own a plot of mainland, or if you do, you'll have a better idea of what kind of land will suit you. Good luck! |

Not so. They discontinued the First Land program. A premium resident is still entitled to own 512 Sqm at no tier cost.

I am going from the part where he thought he already owned the land. So did I when I first came in because it shows on your account page. You think they will leave that on or take it off. People like me don't have a chance of understanding all of this stuff. I am blonde. |
