Audio streams in a prim

Hi, I'm pretty new to SL, and I've seen the iPod-type products, but none of them allows you to listen to a stream. I was wondering if it was even possible. I know you can listen to the stream that the landowner has set, or set your own on your own land, etc., but is it possible to embed a stream in a prim and then wear it?

I want to construct an iPod knockoff that allows you to listen to a stream of your choice whenever you want, although not necessarily broadcasting to everyone around you. There are plenty of times I want to listen to streaming radio while not on my own land, and my computer can't handle running the client and a music player at the same time.

I've never done any scripting before, so I was poking around the internet trying to get a headstart, and it seems to me that this may not be feasible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

We can't assign streams to prims. Being able to assign a stream to prim to have a portable radio has been suggested before. Being able to have a playable stream url in one's profile has been suggested before.

Possible Linden Lab never noticed these often repeated requests. Perhaps they didn't consider it important.

I don't think there's too much of a technical challenge to implementing the idea.

I suspect this feature, which is a pretty obvious idea, hasn't been implemented because it doesn't have a revenue stream associated with it.

By making land ownership a condition of being able to make use of a stream, LL enourages people to own land.

LL claims to be looking for ideas to encourage people to go premium.

So, maybe LL could encourage people to go premium by enable the use of prim based streams for people that go premium.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the advantage to having the personal stream running through a prim in SL, as opposed to just streaming it directly to your computer via whatever software you would normally listen to streams?

The nice thing about streaming via land is that, for parties, clubs, etc. you know all your guests get to hear the same thing. If you're just interested in a solitary music stream...why not just play the music through your computer / regular software and leave SL out of that equation? I could be mistaken but it seems to me that running a 'personal' or 'private' stream through a prim is just adding an extra step in the process...

I mentioned before, my computer can't handle running both the SL client and Winamp at the same time, as it is a bit outdated. It would be easier for me to be able to do it all in the same program.

Would running a separate stream to a skybox be classed the same where there are a number of occupied skyboxes on the same parcel? In this case, everyone has to listen to the same music.

There is a purpose in each resident being able to listen to their own music for others to hear as they may want to host after parties or something and need a different kind of Genre.

Im assuming from reading this thread that it currently isnt possible??

<added>

Actually, same would go for video - if I wanted to watch a video, I possibly couldn't because the guy who lives below me is watching his TV and its a bit rude to try to change the channel ;) Is there a way to restrict streams to individual skyboxes for TV and Audio?
