I have been searching diligently for first land. As I understood it when I signed up, there should be first land out there for me to purchase at L512$; however, I am struggling to find such land. It seems as if 'others' have purchased this first land and are selling it at very high prices. This leaves me a bit disillusioned and disappointed; it feels as if I've been mislead.
Will the Linden gods be offering more first land as it is promised to us? And if so, how can I get some of that land before the 'others' do?
Thanks for your help.

Prudence, there is a ton of discussion on this subject already. Do a search on the topic for hours of enjoyable reading Sadly no solution that I have seen yet, but at least you'll know you're not alone

You're not the first person to report this. It would be helpful if you could point to where you were told there would be First Land ready for you to purchase upon "going Premium." What I've found online in terms of official communication from LL is that First Land is "subject to availability," and instructions on checking that availability are given ( http://secondlife.com/community/land-getyours.php). Here's my best advice on getting yours: 1. Realize it may take days of really trying before you get some. 2. When searching for First Land, enter 512 in both price and area boxes; for some reason this sometimes picks up First Land that leaving the boxes empty will miss. 3. Check every 5-10 minutes, hour after hour, day after day. When I was looking for my First Land, I ran SL in the background as I worked on other things. Every few minutes I'd alt-tab to SL and hit the "search" button. 4. Get some friends to help. They can search when you're away from the keyboard. When any of you finds First Land, alert the rest. 5. Don't be picky. Yes, some First Land is worth more than other, but in the time it takes you to select that superior parcel it may be sold to someone else. 6. You're apparently already Premium, so you can simply buy the land when you see it. For those who are not already Premium, I advise them to upgrade now. In the time it takes you to upgrade, someone else may buy the First Land. Enjoy! P.S. It may get easier soon... Torley has hinted that changes to First Land are coming!

Prudance, take heart. I found first land without hardly trying about two weeks ago, and today marks my first month in SL. I simply checked when I didn't have anything better to do, like when logging on and logging off.
It is sad that experienced players have an advantage over new players, and that without First Land, or owning Mainland period, there's no reason to have a paying account. You can buy more $Lindens than you receive for your monthly subscription fees, and only finding First Land can offset that.
That's a fact that I like to see people saying over and over again until Linden Labs fixes it, by doing something like requiring that First Land be held for 3 months so that it would no longer be profitable for land sharks to buy it.
Edited note: I sold my First Land yesterday. Linden Labs provides too many rewards for land sharks, so it just didn't make sense to hold onto it any longer. :/

The fact that this is misleading should be abundantly clear to all by now. That people just aren't READING it right is debatable; and in any case, when you have this many people reading it and expecting something to be basically available when it in fact is very hard to find, you have a problem that could use correcting. Rewriting the language could avoid this problem. For example, it could say: "On occasion, we release some new First Land. Keep your eyes peeled, and hurry to it when you see it, because it goes fast!" Or - we could just keep calling new players stupid. coco

I agree they should change the wording. The current wording does not imply first land is not available, which, for at least that past week, it hasn't been. Who knows how long it will be before Linden releases more first land? A month? A year? Never? The current wording is extremely misleading. It implies that if you look for it, you should be able to find it, at least in short time. First come, first serve does not mean not available, which is what it currently is. It more implies that you might not get your first choice in land. From: Cocoanut Koala Or - we could just keep calling new players stupid.
The new players are not stupid, and calling them such is disappointing.

From: someone The new players are not stupid, and calling them such is disappointing. You know, I don't advocate calling new players stupid but there are a lot of them that are amazingly ignorant. We all have access to the same pages concerning land and tier, and yet you find people coming in here cursing out the game because they didn't take the time to know how it works. Even if LL revamps the language, it won't prevent this kind of player from making the same kinds of mistakes. And these people will never go away, because they think their time is too precious to read all that gobbledygook.

To the advice I would add that if you see them releasing land, they often do it in stages. I watched them put up first land one parcel at a time, with 5 or 10 minutes between parcels, for a few hours. So if you see it and don't get it, just hit search again and again and again. Probably more will appear within a short time.

Pretty sure they are dealing with the massive demand for islands.
