With so much emphasis on the value that residents provide through their building, I'm surprised there is so much tolerance for the ugliness of so many properties. In particular, why should I pay for land to build something beautiful when my next door neighbor is likely to post signs facing me?
Seriously, much of SL is *ugly*. Casinos! Look like a pornstar barbie! Buy! Buy! Buy!
There ought to be zoning and sign ordinances. It otherwise costs $200 per month to own something beautiful.

Yes, currently the only way to find that type of zoning is to rent from a private sim.

This is what i Love about Living in a free society,, Everybody seems to want MORE restrictive regulations. Lol.
Signs i Tend to Agree with, But as for Buildings, If we all wanted to live in was Cube shaped Pus Coloured Uniform People Storage That is all you Would see in SL. YOU may not like the Building in the Lot next to yours but the person Living in it may consider it the most beautiful thing he has ever seen, and secretly wish you would do something about the Dump YOU live in. Each Persons aesthetic taste is as Unique as a Fingerprint and SL lets people take their Aestetic to its Farthest extreme. You will not now, Nor probably Ever see LL begin regulating what people build on their lots beyond what they have already done in the TOS.Whether it is a Dutch Impressionist, or a Black Velvet Elvis All forms of creative taste are present in SL.
Get used to it.
Angel.

I'm getting tired of ugly signs, myself (suddenly, a sign farm popped up next to my home a while back), but I recognize the free nature of SL, and the fact that advertising is the life blood of some people's SL businesses. More to the point: SL is somethig different to different people. There are zoned sims, and there are now private sims with covenants. Just beware when buying land in a private sim: the owner can change the rent or repo the land any time he wants. Having said that, there are some mainland communities that have some sort of zoning in place. In some cases, they're Linden enforced, and in others, it's cooperative. Not every place in SL is a pr0n/gambling sign farm.

I have a problem with a 40m high brick wall.
One thing I used was to place invsi prims to cover it. This led to some strange interactions as SL not only removed the wall, but the entire neiboring sim from view.
Right now I have a small 20m green wall in one spot and have rearanged the rest of my place to better cope with the 40m high wall since it is likely to stay since the neiboring comunity needs it as a transision line for there timeline/era.

I created a Building recently with a 70 meter long, 15 meter high back Wall, Orientation on the sim places that back wall against someone elses property, So, I contacted the Owner of that Property, Apologized for the Necessity of Having the wall there, and asked what sort of Photograph, or scene they would like there to Hide the wall, or make it more aestheticly pleasing. I'm Currently Looking for a Picture along that persons Tastes High density building does cause these little conflicts, but some Polite messages to ones neighbors usually generate a mutually satisfactory solution. A Little courtest goes a Long way. Angel.
