On the blog is a fresh FAQ about gambling, I'm still a little confused. Is Zyngo legal?? as it is a game of both chance and skill!!

For playing poker and black jack there are also skills needed... It is not all dumb luck...

As the Lindens say...
"This policy only applies to wagering games that involve an element of chance."
In other words, yes. Zyngo/Slingo etc is no longer allowed - the numbers are randomly generated.

Only a little while back Game was the big push Mid 2005. Now look. Its being banned....... and LLABS Big gaming push and a person on the Front web page saying........."I won big on slots....." but we all know it was a badly done PR stunt by LLABS his person that did the bregging he really won his own money ). But know its far from it. Gambling had its time in the sun as you say. Whats next to go? Usagi

From: Morwen Bunin For playing poker and black jack there are also skills needed... It is not all dumb luck... Irrelevant. If they use random numbers to shuffle the deck then they are against the rules, even if there is also a skill component. Wagering on chess or checkers or something else with zero randomness would be fine though. My personal opinion on what should be allowed is quite different, but LL have never asked me about banning things before and I don't expect them to start now.

You know you could always leave your slingo games running until they get sent back to you and you get a warning. Then you know.

From: Nepenthes Ixchel Irrelevant. I agree with you. I was not my point to show poker or black as legal, but to put them equal to the game the OP mentioned and so not allowed. Morwen.

Be careful what you wish for

They had an opportunity to say that everything not specifically mentioned in the policy that had a skill element was ok. They went the extreme opposite way to say that everything with any random component is covered by the policy. You can still have free slingo games that give money, paid slingo games that give no money (or prize that can be sold), or games can be played for free that have an optional payment.
Many of us that run slingo places have been pushing for them to give us some guidance on games that combine luck and skill. What we got was the worst possible answer.

Then LL should consider moving their servers.

Just replace the random number generator with a deterministic generator that appears random to observers.
Of course, giving a choice of learning how it is not random and is within the rules or banning you and taking your stuff I know what LL will do.

Her comes the big Q * Any game of chance is part of the new TOS. Now, how does this work for the WSE? You buy shares and do risk investments with a uncertain come out. Basically this is gambling, gambling on stocks. I know it wont apply for the WSE but basically it should....

Usagi I had a look ingame today and there are still casinos operating seems to be some of the older residents that think they are above the rules and can still run casinos here Peace

From: Nisa Maverick Then LL should consider moving their servers. Yes, LL should do something fantastically difficult, hugely expensive, interrupt SL for god knows how long, move all of their employees to another country, re-incorporate, and then figure out a way to let people pay without using American credit cards (A virtual impossibility) just so a few people can play poker or slingo.

Set all your slingo/zyngo machines up as freeplay with cash prizes and sell passes to your land(a tool already available to all of us) for say $10L for 3 hours.
Doing it this way allows you to run these games and stay within the rules, after all paying to be on someones land is not gambling and neither is is freeplay zyngo/slingo.
Slingo/zyngo lives!!!!

I'm thinking about doing this myself but just for fun and not for profit because i quite enjoy those games and i know many others who do too. And whats the worse that could happen, someone will cheat me out of my 300L a week stipend by not paying to enter, or LL will delete my games but i dont think they really would if i run it the way im planing.

From: Nisa Maverick Then LL should consider moving their servers. This would make no difference. To comply with UK online gambling rules you need to be authroised in the gambling industry. People here simply weren't authorised. Moving the servers is not the answer.

WSE isn't (supposed to be) influenced by random numbers being generated but rather by the random actions of shareholders and the listed companies. Rolling a 6 won't cause the gambling industry to collapse...but new rules, ignorant shareholders and businesses with bad planning skills will!
