I have been working on this problem for awhile and I just can't figure it out. I almost have got to the point to say SL has a problem in my area.
I'm trying to run a Theater on my land. I follow all the instructions about open up the land, choosing a texture and placing a URL in the provided slot.
I have the screen set up with the same texture. When I click to play Media.. It either goes black screen or nothing and the botton says pause media if it is black. So, I think I'm close, but this isn't horse shoes.
I even download a update for media player
But on the other hand I have some animated .gif and pictures on Photobucket that when I do the above, I have no problems.
I want to be able to show real movies and TV on the Screen.
If you or somebody else could help me, I would appreciate it.

If you can, post the URL you're trying to use here. It could be very telling of what your problem may be. Many media streams are buried inside of other web pages, and the viewer won't know what to do with those. Justin Try this: Go to Crystalshard Foo's shop (in his Picks) and pick up a FreeView TV and Remote (you only need need the remote if the land is deeded). Install the TV on the land, if the land is deeded, then deed the TV to the land at this point. Do NOT deed the remote. Click on the screen and get the Menu up. Go to Video, then Configure, then Set up Remote. If you see a UUID for the remote in green whisper text on the screen then it is set up OK. Next, get the menu up again, and click on Bookmarks, then Go To Page, this will take you to the FreeView website. Find Movies down lower left side of webpage and click. Select American Comedy (just for now). When the webpage says 'Done' in the statu bar you can close the browser. You should now have the Movie control on your screen, and clicking the Play button should start the stream and reveal whether you are having problems or not. Rock

From: Justin Slade I even download a update for media player This could be your problem. Media in SL is played through quicktime, not media player (either WMP or mplayer). Try opening the movie in a copy of quicktime. If it doesn't load there, it wont load in SL. Also, make sure you have whatever codecs are needed by the movie.

If the screen goes black for quite a while, it maybe a 'download and watch' type movie.. what you are seeing is a blank screen until its fully downloaded. You need either RTSP movies or progressive download. You also need to use the full url address... the 'http://' part as well. Depending on which type of codex is used on the movie format (assuming say QT mov) you may need to update your version of QT.

I really want to thank everyone for their help. I did go and get the FREETV and that took care of my problem. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have a TV or big screen.
It's unfortunate that this type of information isn't readily available and people have to buy it instead of get it free. I like the idea that you can get set up quick and running.
Thanks again Justin
