Tier Fee Query

Having just recently shelled out on an Island all to myself I found myself wondering, why is there a vast difference in tier fees between Islands and Regions when both are technically the same size ?

At the moment the teir fee for an 'island' is a whopping $295
whereas the teir fee for a 'region' is a mere $195 and yet both cover an area of 65,536 square metres.

I'd guess it has to do with the amount of administrative control and information you get with an Island, compared to Linden-managed regions. But also, an island may have no neighbors, which has a big impact on performance, so it can accommodate more avatars (for example) with less lag.

Darn it..and there I was hoping the reason was a 'typo'

Server class differences I think

Up until November 2006 both private sims and full mainland sim tier were both $195/month. All the existing sims are grandfathered (class isn't really relevant, grandfathered sims cover class 3 through class 5) for the moment unless LL changes its mind at the end of year.

The reasoning was that private sims were at cost (the average mainland sim probably earns LL a multiple of a private sim) which couldn't continue indefinitely and the benefit that estate owners have access to a bunch of tools mainland sim owners don't have and the simple fact that people were willing to pay more to get the same.

There's the real irony. Course if people didn't keep BIDDING on the sims before dropping out (which I find suspicious frankly) then maybe sims would be at a reasonable price like they used to be.
