I recently placed my first classified ad for my art galleries and paid 50 lindens each. I noticed that the gallery only shows in the search function with a few of the keywords I added but not all of them. Is there a secret to getting all the keywords to work? What am I doing wrong?

I am not sure but it seems like more keywords and more money you pay makes a difference when search is working right.

I got about 6 hits in the week I paid for my art gallery to be listed in the classifieds but all the keywords seemed to work. I think that you'd get more traffic sending bulletins/notices via art and artist network group and events, especially black tie ones that usually crash the sim they get so full. You can host an art critique event and I'll go.

Maybe you'd get more hits if you put in keywords that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject of your ad. That seems to be the hip thing to do nowadays.

Yeah I seen that lot put whatever key word that will attract attention regardless if has anything to do with subject matter. It actually really, really bugs me.

I think it's high time to extend the search engine to allow entering of keywords which should NOT appear in the results... saveable setting, perhaps defaulting to the usual sex business terms or gambling related things.

You only paid $50L, that equals the end of the list.

If your keyword search for "Art" has 70 other people who all paid over $50L for their ads, you will be last.

This will also cause you to be off the first page of results for certain high-used keywords. If you look at the people near the top-- What are they paying? Pay more to be up there with them

I have heard it said that paying L$50 actually gets better visibility than paying L$200, and the best strategy is either to pay the minimum or a huge amount.

The way keywords work is not the same as 'google' works with keywords, for example

if your ad said

"Art Gallery Fine Pictures"

if i searched for 'fine art' you would not show up, search for 'Gallery Pictures' would not show up only search for 'art gallery' 'gallery fine' 'fine pictures' would show up

so you have to make your ad look unpretty to humans but pretty to the computer

i.e.

Art Gallery
Art Picture
Gallery Art
Gallery pictures
Fine Art
Fine Pictures
Art Pictures
etc etc....

also what i do is take my complete mess of a advertisement over to a free translator program on teh web like Babel Fish and convert you ad into every possible lang. it has options for. English speaking only makes up like 30% of SL and its pretty freee and pretty easy to make your ad in every single lang. with the simple translater programs.

Also, they changed search so that whole words only show so in your keywords "portraits," is the whole word, not "portraits". Eliminate your commas and simply put spaces between the words and your keywords will all work. Searching for "portraits," popped you right up where searching for "portraits" without the comma did not.

I usually make note of the places that do that and never ever return to them. And I tell friends who are looking for the same thing that it doesn't exist at 'so and so.'

Thanks, Everyone.
To the person who mentioned paying more to move up higher on the search, I always see everything as alphabetical as I search in "all." So I don't understand how paying more would do anything different in that field. I'm assuming that's where most people search?

As I understand it, if you put in a popular search word like "clothes", then unless you pay L$500000 your ad will not appear AT ALL if someone searches on "clothes".

I love it when someplace that sells textures puts clothing, skin and hair in their keyword search bumping me down lower. Nothing against texture sellers either. Could be anyone else, but I'm sure they don't sell skins. Yet, they are allowed to do it, but still why?

and its a good idea to overpay $1. if you spend $51 you are at the top of the $50 crowd. $101 puts you above the 100 crowd. cos people use easy numbers, so you add a dollar.

I also always get alphabetical results when I search. Also, I tend to search from the bottom up, sometimes from the top down, though rarely from the top down.

Even though I have my own art gallery (with my original artwork), I have never attempted to get it listed through search as I haven't a clue, really, how that works (I specify search because I do have my gallery in my Picks, and in that Art Gallery HUD (which I have had great fun using to find galleries :)), and also put up a Stargate because that seemed like a fun thing to do). I keep hearing about people's ads getting placed at the top or bottom, or whatever, and I'm very confused, especially when I search everything is in ABC order.
