Failed to place object at specified . . .

OK finally a few days off this week. Time to finish building something - anything. I get all worked up, head to a sandbox and pull out my latest project.

"Failed to place object at specified locataion. Please try again."

So I move the mouse a little.

"Failed to place object at specified locataion. Please try again."

This goes on for some time. I finally move to a different sandbox and have no trouble. What causes this annoying phenomenon? I have experienced it randomly since forever. If I knew the cause, I could avoid it. Thanks.

Could be the sandbox is aproaching it's prim/avatar limit ( 15000 prims/40 av's ) .. if that is the problem the only way to avoid it is go to choose a clearer box.

I get this problem occasionally, and I've heard many others say they do too.

Usually it can be solved by:

a) trying to rez on a different part of your screen (e.g., near the edge rather than in the middle)

b) adjusting your camera angle and distance (doesn't seem to matter which way, but may need to try a variety of options)

Obviously it is also possible that it's a server-side problem, particularly some disconnect between the sim and the asset database (as was happening on a grand scale last week, and to some degree still is). In that case relocating to a sim that is currently working properly is necessary. Still, try A and B first, as they nearly always solve the problem for me. :)

I've been seeing this alot lately, ever since voice got added to the main client. Used to see it on occasion before but since the update to add voice its been a regular occurance happening even in places I never saw it before.

Whether its related in any way to the voice addition or to something else that changed at the same time I have no way of knowing. But with increased lag, inventory problems increasing and all of the network issues that LL has had since the voice ghanges it really makes you wonder.

I've had this happen a lot also. Sometimes the only way to rez anything from inventory (for me at least) is to wear it, then drop it (not detach, but drop). I've seen this error enough times that after two attempts to drag from inventory, I automatically wear it/drop it.

Sometimes it'll give me the error, I give up, and 3-4 minutes later, I have two flex skirts (or whatever I was rezzing) that just appear.

I'm pretty sure there's been a recent change in how the sims calculate the collision envelope of the things we rez on. This has been a long-standing problem with trying to rez on various exotic prim surfaces, but lately it's even been happening when rezzing on the ground. (!)

One thing that usually works is to first Create the default .5m plywood box, and then rez on top of it.

I've encountered this occasionally, both when rezzing in my house and rezzing on open land. Sometimes i just have to try again, sometimes, like Abba mentioned, nothings happens for a hile and then I have two or three rezzed items.

I've seen no increase in this since the introduction of Voice - or after the introduction of any new client, for that matter.

Id concur with that one - IMHO this is the single most irritating thing in SL at the moment (though Im sure others could spin that off into a new thread!)

some things i have noted:

objects dont like to rez on the inside of prims. (ie: i can never 'drop' something from my inventory onto my half-hollow-cube photo-background).

objects dont like to rez on mega prims. (i have trouble in large skykboxes and classrooms built from megaprims. or maybe these megaprims are cut like above; im not sure.)

objects prefer to rez on real ground, rather than huge cubes of prim ground.

and sometimes... if i lift the mouse up as i drag from inventory and throw down as i am releasing the button, to get a different drag and drop angle... it works better. don't ask me why. it's probably a fluke. (or related to the change your zoom/camera angle trick. come to think of it, i have a terrible time dropping when im zoomed way in.)

This explains why I had a wall returned to my lost and found when I logged on today. It must have rezzed after I gave up and went elsewhere. Or it rezzed underground.

I guess we still need to be careful with no-copy items for a while.

Good to know, Crystal... I'm the queen of camera zooming, especially when I'm building, so I'll have to give your method a try. :)

This seems to me to happen mostly when I try to rez a prim near a seam between two other prims, while zoomed in fairly tight. Usually if it happens, a second attempt will fail silently no matter where I click, *unless* I change my point of view. If I zoom out or otherwise change what is framed in my SL window, it will usually then allow me to rez what I wanted to rez.

This has been a problem for quite a while - long before Voice.
