So i've just downloaded second life and am having no luck! This is a really simple question but how on earth do you do this?
I've bought a couple of items to wear and I don't know how to wear them! The closest I've got so far is wearing a billboard! Help!

Hiya Ava.. Sounds like u wore a box on your head.. Happens to the best of us. You want to take the box out and drag and drop to the ground. right click and open and copy to inventory. Will be in your recent items.. click on them to wear.. right click and wear or double click your preference..
Good Luck Mati

Don't worry Ava, I'm almost a year old with HUNDREDS of hours shopping and I STILL stick stuff on my head. Do as the second post says. I have no other info to give, but I just wanted to let you know, you are not alone!

Owing to a recent upgrade, folks may not be sticking things on their heads, but rather on their hands. Progress marches on.
If you haven't read the help information that comes up with F1, that would be a good place to start to get some idea of the basics of how to use Second Life.
Some of the clothing outfits you buy may come "packed in a box". To wear them, you drag the name of the outfit's box to the ground, this will cause the box to appear on the ground. Then right click the box and select Open. This will copy the items from the box into a folder in your inventory. Once you have the folder in your inventory, right click the folder name and select Add To Outfit or Replace Outfit.
Other clothing items may be single items in your inventory, like a pair of jeans. Just right click the item's name and select wear. Or drag the item name to your avatar. Or double click.

Take Control now

One more hint, inventories have a way of rapidly getting out of control, take time weekly or even daily if needed to sort new items and keep the inventory organized. It will make it much easir to find things down the road.

Just make new folders, then rename them and store items in corresponding folders.

Ava, Welcome to SL. We've all done the box on the head, and now box on the hand... and even occassionally accidently still do it. Everyone has already given you good advice. The only thing i could possibly add is to go visit "Free Dove" (search button at the bottom of your screen, places tab, key word = "Free Dove" . They have many notecard dispensers with graphics to walk you through many of the things you need to know. Like how to unpack a box. It's one thing for someone to tell you how, it's something different for you to see, on a graphic, with a step by step notecard, how to do it.

It will make it much easir to find things down the road. Oh so true. Every once in while (once per 2 weeks or so) I sit down and clean up the mess of my inventory. I made sub-folders in my clothes-folder to organize all my clothes to the type. Something I recently started to do is place a screenshot to each folder with clothes. (when not added by the vendor). And if I really really like something, I place the screenshot (which and direction where I stored) in specially folder for this. It happened too often that I could not find something I really liked back again..... and yes, my collection of clothes is huge ^^. Same I did for landmarks and for the photo-albums. Check as often your notecards and calling cards folders . Ohhh... and keep an eye on the "object" and "lost and found" folders. They tend to become a mess quickly to. Bah... and I thought cleaning was only part of my First Life . Morwen.
