Harrassment for land

Check this problem I'm having at my land and tell me what you think.

I have land I own at a beautiful tropical sim which I have very elegantly fixed up. It's right at the corner of the sim which I got on purpose so I'd have two complete sides facing nothing but water and no one can come in through either of these two sides, better for more privacy.

On the same sim they just opened what they're calling a mall but this is much further down away from my land. Now, to go to this mall you don't need to come anywhere near my land as the mall is on the other side and as I've stated my land is at the other side at the corner of the sim. And it's not like you need to pass by my land to go anywhere else, if you go towards my land, you're going out of your way to do so.

The other day I find a giant scooter cock on my land. I checked to see who it belonged to and sent it back. I also sent ths person a message telling him I was returning his stuff and to be careful not to leave his things on other peoples property.
Anyway, turns out this person owns the mall and wanted to buy my land from me. I said no but he insisted, he just wouldn't take no for an answer until finally I just stopped answering him. Finally he stopped.

But then I saw an increase of people coming down into my land as most of you know it happens alot in sl. They were coming from the mall on the other side of the sim. It got so bad I picked up security to eject them out. I also have a warning sign and the security system warns them to leave or face oncoming ejection.

Now this person I spoke off continues to come into my land knowing full well he will be ejected plus he sends others to do the same. I know this because I have copies of written conversations where I got them to admit this. Each time he or they are taken out they complain so why do they continue coming?
Then last night I get yet another message from him but this time telling me to take down my security because he said he was ejected. I asked him why did he come into my land when he himself knew I had told him to stay away and he also knew he'd be ejected if he came in. He didn't answer, just insisted I take it down. But he also makes another offer to buy the land from me which I again said no.

Then he sends someone over which at the time I didn't know he had done so. This person comes in I quickly warned him he would be ejected as did the security but he didn't leave and was ejected out. He calls me and we talked, he tells me the same thing as the other guy and tells me he was with him too. He also tells me I should sell the land to the other guy.

They want me to take down my security which I will not do. They say they get ejected, I say my security doesn't touch anyone outside my land but if you come in then you'll be taken out. I tell them as long as you don't come in my land you have nothing to worry about.

Now, they're telling me I have been reported and to buy another security system. Can you just picture the balls on these guys?

The guy wants to buy me out of my land, his friend also asked me about selling. They wanted me to tell them how much I wanted but I won't sell. I won't give them the satisfaction of doing so no matter what they offer me. I repeatedly told them all I want is for them to leave me alone and to stay away from my land as they have no business being there at all.

They are harrassing me to get me to either sell or get thrown out because as they put it they want that pc of land I have. They continue to leave stuff on my land on purpose of course as I stated they have no reason to go there for anything whatsoever. I know about the auto-return but I shouldn't have to do anything as they shouldn't be doing this to begin with.

How can they complain of being thrown out when they're on my property? I told them if I see them anywhere on my land I won't give my security time to eject them because I will do it myself. I have also reported them and have all the converstions I've had with them since this first began.

This is the owner of the new gay mall. Then he tried to turn this into a gay issue where he then says if I don't like gays and all that other bs. I told him I don't care where he likes to be fucked, all I care about is me and mine.
He's really trying to get the land by using all these type of underhanded tactics but it's not going to work as I'm from New York City, I don't bend easy as he will find out.

Whoop. Happened to me. I posted about it on here somewheres too. I had land, and a casino came rearing up around me, and wanted my land. So she who will not be named griefed my land. In the end I sold the land, which she got anyway, but it was a horrible experience and ARing her did NOTHING. Linden Labs was completely USELESS in the issue.

Keep your security up, set your land so no one can rezz or enter objects, and report them every time they harrass you. It may do no good, but it won't hurt.

Yep, that guy sounds like a real pain. If you really love your land and want to stay, just protect it and yourself.

BAN LINES
I don't normally like ban lines, but it seems appropriate in this case. Add your friends' names to the list and set it to only let them in (and yourself maybe? I've heard you had to do that, but I couldn't get it to add mine).

BUILD AND OBJECT ENTRY
Turn both of these off for "anybody" in the land options box. This should keep them from putting things on your land in most cases.

AUTO-RETURN
Even if you weren't having problems, it's a good idea to use auto-return. Because you are being actively griefed, set it to 1 minute so anything to DO get on the land disappears quickly.

MUTE
Just MUTE him. You may have to do it again after you re-log if LL hasn't fixed that "lose your mute list" bug yet. Mute him AND anyone who talks to you on his behalf. Mute them, and it will be like they aren't even there.

If you want your friends to be able to rez objects on your land and not have the auto-returned, make a group and make sure there's at least two people in it (or it will get disbanded). You don't have to deed your land to the group, just "set" it. There is no risk, but anyone set to the group will be allowed to build there and not have it returned (if you allow "group" build permissions).

What a crappy situation. I'm sorry to hear about it.

The most fun part of SL for me is fixing up a new plot of land. If this was happening to me, I would gouge the guy for as much as you can get and start over somewhere with better vibes.

Or get as much evidence as you can on the harrassment and AR the guy in the hope that LL will respond and come to your aid.

that sucks.... and I can feel your pain... But. is it worth the hassle? like others have said, sell the land..... for a tidy sum. the Im me and Ill sell you a nice plot in the corner of our sim for 7.5 a meter. ( not meant as a sales pitch just trying to help a brother out.)

I'm assuming you are the only other resident in the sim, by the sounds or he isn't doing this to others too? Just carve up some 16m pieces off you block for add farm buyers if you sell to make his life hell.

I hate when one bad apple makes us all look bad. I wish you could give his name so I would know what business I need to skip ever shopping at, but I know you can't.

On top of the suggestions already in this thread, have you put up a visual border around your property? A low-prim fence, or a phantom megaprim just to block their view onto your property would give you a little more privacy, and cause more people to hesitate and think about it before just walking in.

Also, I see where you have chat logs of your conversation with this guy. Keep that documentation, and when you have a lot of it collected I'd send it all to Linden. One well-documented letter showing repeated harrassment is taken more seriously than lots of little abuse reports.

Exactly as Eva said, but with one difference:

Don't close off your land to all, but add this 4$$hat to your ban list. Reason? That way he can't say your security system ejected him as he can't get on your property to begin with.

Your system is NOT a violation of the ToS/CS if it is within your land boundires and is only using Eject. (Using TP-Home can be if you do not set a long enough warning.) Also, be sure to uncheck the OBJECT ENTRY option. That way people can't say they lost "vehicles" on your property that they can't reach after being ejected.

Copy/Paste any harrassing chat/IM from these persons on a notecard and file AR's with every threat. You can not fit that many words in an AR, but you can add the words "Log to follow in e-mail" to the end. Then when you get the automated response REPLY to it and attach the log file. (The AR option to include chat still does not work). While chat logs can be faked, LL can also go back and pull ANY conversation in SL from their database (yes, even IMs). Be sure to maintain a polite converse yourself. Do not use derogatory comments, nor any threats. My best advise is to not even type a single thing to them. Only listen and AR.

contact the island owner and have each person`s conversation in an notecard, to start with that ass

put a ban line up and add ur friends, no object cretaion/entry, leave it for a couple of days so they can try and give up and then open it again

If you ban and mute them, stop others building or having object entry, then that goes a long way. I got banned and muted by someone by mistake (I reported a griefer on their land but the owner mistook me for that griefer) and there was no way I could get through to this person, if only just to clear my name!

Alternatively, put your land up for sale at way over market price in the hope the guy buys it. You could even keep back 16m as 'not for sale' just to annoy him as by then you'll be in your new home sipping iced lemonade by the pool and you won't care!

if you don't want to block fully your land simply carve a 16sqm strip of land and set it to group only, this way will make a nice "natural fence"

Thats what i did set a piece of 1024 land next to a night club at 50,000 and 3 weeks late rit sold to the owner of the club

was a very nice profit for very little effort

i think you are giving this guy way too much of your time.

keep your security, and set the autoreturn for 1-2 minutes, mute him and mute anyone who tries to talk to you about IT.

there. now he's been silenced "in your life" and you can go on about your day.

most importantly, quit giving this guy so much power. the more you think about it and stress about it, the more he's IN your little world.

don't give in. and follow the suggestions regarding the no object entry, ban him and everyone who approaches you about it. its sad that people are now reduced to these sort of bullying tactics so they can make money. like the poster above said, stop giving away your power. let him be and act a fool. in the end he will get the message.

This is spectacular advice, Jessy.

Especially in ARs, it is important to be level-headed. Be brief, give just the facts of what happened, and list the TOS/CS sections being violated. At least that's what has worked for me, and the three ARs I've submitted were dealt with within days.

The other nice thing about staying calm when someone is harassing you in SL? It can REALLY piss them off. They are usually harassing you specifically to get you upset and emotional and unhappy, so just refuse to give them the pleasure. Don't even get terse. Just answer them as if giving instructions on how to make a PB&J sandwich. I have a RL friend who refers to this as "gettin Buddhist in ya face!"... I wouldn't recommend it in RL situations, though, as it can result in a serious whoopin'.

I pretty much second a lot of what people have said. There's no need to be retaliatory--just a few simple precautions can make things easier.

I have a small patch of land and I set it to a Group I'm in that has only three people, myself included. I haven't deeded it to the Group, just set it up as the Group 'in charge' in the Land settings. Building and scripting are only available to Group members. Anybody else is SOL. (Sometimes this has disadvantages, such as when a friend who was visiting tried to hug me and failed, but I had the same script so I hugged him back.)

Put the bozos on the ban list so they can't come on. Mute them if they get snitty about it. That should pretty much take care of it.

And try not to get too freaked out about random people wandering about. Most people are operating under the assumption because land can be set to make intrustion physically impossible, if you are free to wander in then it must be okay. If it bugs you that much, set up a Group with your pals and set the land to Group Only so only you and your circle can get in.

Boy! Is that great advice! You are not a victim until you allow yourself to be one. You may be subject to harrassment/oppression/whatever, but you are not a victim until you stop fighting back. DO NOT be a victim: It encourages the sonsabitches.

WoW, I'm impressed. I didn't expect this turn out and I appreciate the advice.

I have banned him and his friend from my land and I'll do the same to anyone else who comes in with the same idea as these guys. I've done the same with the auto-return and hopefully there will be no more problems.
