I haven't downloaded this viewer by Able Whitman yet, as I hesitate when doing something that might screw up SL anymore then it is, but this sounds like it would really reduce the irritation of ad-farms and even ugly noob building neighbors... truthfully it could make for a friendlier mainland in general: http://ablewhitman.blogspot.com/2007/07/unofficial-able-edition-build-41571.htmlHas anyone tried this viewer?? This is a blog post showing what could be possible with the viewer and it intrigues me, but I don't know Able from Adam. http://ablewhitman.blogspot.com/2007/06/trying-to-take-back-view.htmlCould this be the answer to annoying abandoned plywood builds and spinning FOR SALE signs?!?!?! If it works, how can we get this implimented into the offical viewer?

giant prims covered with quality and attractive textures also put an end to ad farms. but serisouly... i wonder if that would work. i'm interested.

Only the giant prims I've seen are almost as ugly as the ad farms - I mean those huge conifer screens. And I say that despite being called Conifer!!!

well, i just use the same material my building is made from, so it looks like part of the building.

From: Pie Psaltery Has anyone tried this viewer??
If it works, how can we get this implemented into the official viewer? I've tried it. It worked quite well - I went around muting all the ads on my home sim; the ads go transparent so you can *just* see them (so you don't bump into things if you're walking around). It made the view much nicer I believe Nicholaz Beresford is thinking about adding this feature to his browser (which is the one I generally use on my PC). Able is, I understand, one of the 'patch' contributors to LL, so there is a chance that it will get incorporated. Vote for this JIRA issue to raise its profile and give it more chance of being added. Neither viewer, unfortunately, will work on a Mac.

Thanks Valentino. The link in your post didnt make it tho coz the froums are borked. Here's the link to the jira about this issue https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1017I would think anyone who had an issue with ad-farms or ugly builds would support this as something that needs to be incorporated into the official viewer.

I think that SL snapshots from around the same area work well on screens. It helps load speed to download them and manipulate them if possible to have height and width in multiples of 2 (like 512x512), then upload back into inventory.

And giant prim walls don't do you much good when the ad farm is in the middle of your beautiful view of the ocean, like in the picture linked above. By putting up a big wall, you've just thrown the baby out with the bathwater. I gave this a yes vote in the JIRA, but there's also some interesting discussion in the comments. I don't necessarily want to drag all that in here, but I think it's misleading to call this "an end to Ad farms." Yes, this is great if your goal is to remove unsightly items from your line of sight alone. In my opinion, however, Ad farms would be relatively immune to this. See the comments in the JIRA for details. It's still cool, and a step in the right direction. Fantastic work!

For regular ad farms that are just that, bunches of ads, this sounds like it might be a good idea.
For griefer-objects (and if the change doesn't allow you to mute all obejcts from a particular person) I'm not sure that it's going to be much, if any, help..
Either way, thanks for putting this together, Able.
