Newbie here in need of expert advice I have found a couple of places that I like and I need to make a choice which one out of the two i should rent. Is there any thing I should look out for when renting land or a house that could cause me some trouble. I have looked at the different terms offered from the land owners but I don't know if what they say is good or bad. Thank you

Are you looking at renting on the Mainland or a private estate?
The main thing is to check out who you are renting from (make sure it is someone with a good reputation) and how much they want from you up front.

Private estate, mainly because the land seems more attractive. Is there a way to check their reputation?

Ask current renters. See what they say about the estate owner and his attitude. Visit the island and click over the land to see who owns it and then IM them. Else, IM the Island owner and ask him for references. I encourage renters to ask before they buy/rent as it means I can also make sure they understand the covenant.

If you're renting rather than buying you shouldn't have too many risks to take, go for the shortest term period.
Although checking someone's reputation is important, it's not so crucial with short term rentals. If they're asking for a couple of months rent up front, then you need to be sure they have a good reputation, if it's a minimum of one or two weeks, you're not risking too much.

From: Loppo Koba Thanks, I didn't think much could go wrong and I am looking at short term so that I can move around abit and try out different places. Contact Sarah Nerd, Kandee Herrey or Steve Mahfouz. All three are reputable estate owners that can answer any of your questions.

My advice, first take a good look around.
Look at advantages and desadvantages of renting vs buying (there are enough thread here on these forums about that).
And if you made up your mind and go for renting, make very sure that you know on forehand all the rules set by landlord/landlady. Also make sure you know what your rights and duties are.

Well it didn't take long for me to opt for the rental of a 1024 plot on a beach, I'm really pleased with it. Now I'm off to the shops for some cool beach gear, anyone know of a good place to start shopping?
