I purchased a scooter and was driving it around when I happened to go across some land with an intruder ejector script or something... anyway, it sent me flying up into the sky and my scooter disappeared. I went down on the ground and looked around but couldn't find it. It did not show up in my "Lost and found" folder. Is it gone forever?

Sometimes you do get booted off your vehicle, by a security script, or just by a region crossing. In most cases, the vehicle remains in the air right where you left it, and more often than not, if you don't fetch it yourself, the parcel owner will eventually return it to your Lost and Found to get it off your parcel.
Whan a security script uses a strong push to kick you out, it can send the vehicle flying as well. Sometimes it crosses several sims! It will usually either go off-world and be retuened after a while, or it will come to rest on someone else's land and they will eventually return it. Usually. In some cases, it does just vanish. I lost a rolled tatami mat once, when I was moving it and accidentally "threw it" in a random direction. I searched along all the likely paths that it may have travelled, for several sims, and never did find the darned thing. _____________________

So, I'll assume it's on somebody elses property. What if that person doesn't find it or decides not to return it? Will it stay there indefinitely?

Though most people will eventually notice that someone else's prims are eating up the prim count that they pay for, and they will do something to remove the abandoned vehicle. _____________________

Most vehicles and ALL GOOD Ones are copy
01-29-2007 08:22
You should have a copy in your inventory from your original purchase shouldnt you?
If not ask the creator for a replacement if you can rememebr their name. Most Merchants will replace your loss. Especially if it is a vehicle becasue what you went through is a very common event. Waves at Ceera, HI HON!!!!!! |

Nobody else can use it so it would be simply eating up someone else's prim count if it hasn't vanished completely. Land owners used to be able to delete items abandoned on their land but now can only return them. If auto-return isn't used it may take them some time to notice it. |

After some experiences losing vehicles when hitting ban-lines, sim-crossings, etc. I now only use 'disposable' vehicles... by which I mean, there are some lovely L$1 mod/copy aircraft at the Gnubie store, and in your Library there is a go-cart. Cheap and fun and if it gets lost, I don't have to worry about it.
In the past week I've lost two ships, neither have turned up in my lost and found. -Atashi |

It was a no-copy purchase, so maybe I made a mistake with that? The problem with purchasing items in SL is that there are SO MANY places offering similar stuff for sale... it is hard to know where to get exacly what you want without searching for a few hours. |

Ya, no copy vehicles are a mistake. I have been ejected from vehicles several times, and they have not always been returned to me. Just crossing a sim can do it, hitting ban lines moving much faster than walking is bad, and security systems make vehicles extremely tough when set to push because they usually unsit you first. Planes can fly over, but try sailing the waterways sometime. Eek.

Never by a vehicle that isnt copyable, that way you will always have one in your inventory.
99% of my vehicle use ends up in a crash, and often a lost vehicle, so there is no point in having one that you can't copy. Unless you just like throwing m oney away. _____________________

Send a chat to the owner and ask him to return it. Also send a message to the creator of the vehicle asking him why his vehicles are no copy? unless he has the transfer option on there should be no reason for that. You probably got booted by a ban line or a security script its common and annoying.
Anyhow yeah I tend not to buy items that are no copy mainly because if its expensive and I loose it for whatever reason it makes me cry ... |

I once scripted a little flying, winged ball - something I thought would be fun to let loose in my sims, and see if anyone could catch it for a prize.
Which did happen; that was a lot of fun. BUT - I tested it first on the mainland. One of the first ones I tested was set up to go in a giant, multisim looping path at fairly high speed... DOH! That was... hmm... last May I think... it's still out there... somewhere.... zzzzinngggg!!! ohthereitgoes And gone again. Heh. _____________________

Desmond, there is a hole in my house, the shape of a winged ball... I hope you got some kind of insurance!

As luck would have it I have an absentee neighbour in Brouwer who seems to have a scooter on his land with the engine still running! I noticed it last night (easily spotted from my plot as he hasnt built anything yet). Perhaps if you tp to Brouwer you can have a look.

I accidently bought a no copy scooter as well...I lost it on the mainland somewhere. The creator was nice enough to give me another scooter - and one that had copy permissions. Wonder if it's the same scooter.

I think you will find that most merchants are more than happy to provide you with another copy of the item you purchased. Its good customer service and frankly, doesn't cost us anything.
Just yesterday when perusing my transaction logs (which I have to do in world now since the website updates are FUBAR) when I noticed that I must have mispriced one of my items for sale because I knew it was supposed to be 10L and several people purchased it for 15L. Now 15L was still an awesome price, but it was my mistake. I tracked down each purchaser and refunded 5L back to them with an IM thanking them for shopping at my store. Goodwill is certainly worth more than 5L.... or 50L or 5000L. |

My suspicion is confirmed! Amazingly, it is Yikone's scooter at Brouwer.
Yikone, if you're on here I've IM'ed the location to you. |
