ok did I miss something, or is my client buggy? I don't have a slider for the gamma anymore in the preferences menu.
Just noticed it tonight while working with some lighting effects.

There's no slider on mine but there is a field for gamma on the Adv. Graphics tab of the Preferences dialog. Second from the top, below Filtering.
