Upgrading Premium account?

So when I first signed up here a day less than a month ago I got a quarterly premium account. I decided to try it for a while.

Well I like the "game" so I want to upgrade to the annual $72 thing because it's cheaper in the long run. My question is is if I signed up on that now will I loose 3 months worth of services, will those 3 months be tacked onto the year, or will they adjust the new year long accordingly and make it so part of the 22 I already paid will be applied to the $72 charge?

Last question would be, if I decided that land wasn't too horribly important to me and decided to downgrade, would the $9.99 charge be taken out of the $22 or would I loose the $22 AND the $9.99?

Thank you!

If you upgrade to the year, once your quarter is up, you will then be changed the $72. You will then have a year from that point with a premium. If you downgrade you will not be charged anything extra. Your premium will continue until your current payment plan is up.

On the first part I believe LL would apply your $22.50 for the quarterly to your $72 for your yearly..........or prorate the time of the quarterly to the time you actually go for the yearly. I have some problems with LL and their customer service but they have yet to cheat me out of even one cent. Call or email them and check first if you have any doubts. The call will most likely be unsuccessful but the email will likely be answered in a couple weeks.

To your last question I asked that same question to LL about a year ago and the answer was that yes, it would cost $9.95 to downgrade to basic...........any balance in you account at the time woul be applied to that fee. But if you simply quit the game, then no charge. I wound up not downgrading but it struck me odd that they would charge to downgrade yet not charge a "penalty" for quitting. Weird thinking up there in San Francisco. :) Not sure if that is the same policy now, though.

However, if that is the same policy then my advice to you if you should decide to quite premium and go basic is to just quit..............the come back as a free, unverified account. Loop hole? Yeah..........but they actually told me that so I guess they have no problem with it.

There used to be...........that I can guarentee. Unless some Linden out and out lied to me. It was the deciding factor for me still being a premium member.

I wasn't disputing that there used to be one :). It just doesn't seem to be there anymore now.

My alt went from premium down to basic in November and I never got charged for that.

Samat, really glad to see you are staying for the long run. I would agree that Linden have never cheated a cent - I have hacked about memberships quite a lot - they normally leave "current" plan running and then continue with the new one after that.

I have an alt going to basic at the moment, and the monthly plan is running through until its original end date - so can't confirm the "downgrade" fee - it is certainly still quoted so I guess it will be charged.

Best wishes Aaron

Warning About Downgrading Early

Hi Samat,

Just some friendly advice from a fellow newbie and (soon-to-be-ex) premium account customer: Although any Price Plan change (e.g. to Basic) is only supposed to kick in once your existing plan has run out - if you DO select to downgrade to basic now, you will NOT be able to buy any land (whether mainland OR private island land) for the remainder of your subscription, although you will still get your $300L stipends. So, you will in essence be giving up half the benefit of your account (being able to buy land) if you select to downgrade before your time is nearly up. You also won't be able to donate your 512m tier to a group, either.

I found this out the hard way when I had to enlist the help of a basic account to buy some Private Island land for me as my downgrading premium account refused to let me buy it.

If you are interested in purchasing land, I would encourage you to take a look at space on Private Islands, as it can work out a lot cheaper. I bought a seaside 1536 sq.m. parcel for $7500, plus $12/m tier. On mainland a similar parcel would of cost me about $50,000, plus $15/m tier. Even a non-waterfront 1536 parcel in mainland would of been $22,000 or so. You will have to pay tier to a private person and not Linden Labs however, but the cost works out about the same, or even slightly cheaper :)

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please IM me inland if you'd be interested in a similar deal on land to the one I got.
