Please read and vote! From my understanding this could be a major factor in lag issues all over SL...feel free to let me know if I'm wrong (not that i think you wouldn't! lol)

Uhm, to add a question...is there anyone NOT affected by lag?? ok, ok, yeah, some of you with the hot rods probably aren't...not all of us are that lucky.

Just think this JIRA deserves some exposure.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-3867 <- explains why sim performance has been degrading, grid wide. pass it on!

edited to add JIRA...silly me!

I wonder if this has something to do with why the Hangout seems to get more and more laggy as time goes on. It has just been horrid there lately. Many of us definitely rez and delete lots of scripted objects there.

Voted.

Good. This crossed Soft Linden's radar screen. Let's hope that they are able to identify and eliminate the problem fast.

Wow....that's pretty huge.

I wonder if.......there's any relation to ghost scripts....and the fact that if you delete a script from an object.......the object will still retain the function....even tho the script is gone. Like...a particle script....even if taken out of the object......the object will still function the same when re-rezzed.

I watched a tutorial a while back on scripting, and I know there's a way to eliminate that script retention after deleting......But I wonder.....is that also an issue related to this ghost script bug??? I'll have to take a look at the sim my land is on, and see what I can find there...... what a mess....gees....

Generating particles is a prim attribute like colour or shiny. All a particle script does is set the right attributes. Particles will still be generated after the script is removed.

You have to stop the particle engine in the prim explicitly by a call to llParticleSystem([]);

That's as it should be. Expected behaviour. :o

It appears that Soft Linden wants more detailed reports of specific instances of the problem, including the exact script name and coordinates.

since this is an issue that could be causing so much lag for everyone, not just landowners...i'm recommending any who can vote, please do so.

i'm not making this recommenation because of this being a 'pet' JIRA issue but one that really does affect most everyone. while i don't feel that visual graphics issues and UI font issues should go unfixed...i do feel this one shouldn't be buried by a barage of pet issues which don't affect functionality.

please let's not bury this thread as a 'pet' JIRA issue...it's really a major problem in SL that needs fixing!

I voted on this one yesterday. Clearly a big big issue, and have encouraged others. I'm also being careful with scripts until this is fixed.

As an aside: note that Soft moved pretty quickly on this one, and a lot of action is taking place very quickly. I only point it out for those who complained about the ol' Hippos! one, and how that supposedly showed a LL doesn't care about stuff on the JIRA an all. :-)

Is there any way to contribute to swatting this as a mainland resident? I believe you need the estate tools to get the important script data and that rules out the ML.

PS: Mari, you're right. Kudos to Soft to getting on the act fast, and on the weekend at that. Aaaaand we're saving the hippos, too! :)
