Anyone know why [edited] would be putting listening devices in and around SL? We have had many devices in Gerstle over the last week. Torley Linden: Closed thread and removed "named names" — often if you're curious about such stuff, it's a good idea to ask the person who placed the devices, and if they're violating the Community Standards ( http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php ) via Disclosure, abuse report them.

- how do you know they are listening devices?
- if they are, that would be against the TOS, and naming names on the forum in such a situation rather than inquiring privately and/or filing an AR is a Bad Thing and could get you in all kinds of trouble.
- what makes you think anybody here would know who this person is or what their motivations are for whatever it is they are doing?

what makes you think they wouldn't? i'm sure milady, being an SL veteran, is aware of the rules.

From: Anti Antonelli - how do you know they are listening devices? They were named 'Trakker', initially created by a person well-known for selling snooping devices. They were tiny in nature, fully transparent, had about 20 active scripts in them, all named "listener". Duh. - Newfie

Duh.
Not sure why I deserved that - taken purely on its own merits, with the information presented, I think this thread warranted my questions/comments. Apparently everybody else here already has additional info on the subject and/or are a bunch of psychics. I shall find another thread...

I think it was one of those situations that simply meant the answer was obvious if you had one of the items to inspect, not that you were a dummy for not knowing this. Similar to "Elementary my dear Watson" maybe making Watson feel dumb at the moment of explanation, but almost without exception being information he wouldn't/couldn't know without Sherlock expounding further. More of a "Ta-Dah!" really, than a "Duh!"
I've never liked the phrase "doh/duh" (except when self directed) because it is too easily interpreted as a putdown, whether actually meant that way or not.

Anti, it wasn't meant as a put down at all...this thread was intended to put interested land owners on alert as to what this guy put in Gerstle. It also was posted to alert SL users that there are listening devices out there and anything typed in main chat can be captured and "overheard" for whatever reason. Be aware of not only who is around you, but what. Maybe [edited] thinks what happens in Gerstle on the 5 areas of land that he put the listening devices was of major importance and needed every word for prosperity. Who knows...which brings us to the other reason I posted, does anyone know why?

Interesting.
Just FYI, what's the best--that is, easiest and most effective--way to detect these things on your land?
