Send a notecard to someone.

I must have missed something. I am ne to SL but nevertheless.

How do I do to sedn a notecard to someone or to a whole group.

First how do I create the notecard? And the how do I send it? Is it possible to have some formatting (html o? ) in the notecard.

Isnt ther any way to send mail to an Avatar. I mean do it just as in RL. Not send an IM to a person off line which then can be sent as a mail if you have registered that fro your avatar. I want to have the possiblity.

Hi Perl, I think I can answer some of your questions. I admit I'm doing this from memory (I'm not inworld at the moment), so little details might be a little off.

To make a new notecard, open up your inventory. Under one of the menus at the top of the inventory window (not your full SL window), there will be options to create different things: notecards, folders, scripts, etc.

When you choose New Notecard a window will open up. You can type in your content, and then save. This may just be my client, but after I save, it gets locked and can't be edited anymore. If I close the notecard and re-open it, then I can edit it again.

Giving a notecard is the same as giving any other type of inventory, just open their profile and drag the notecard onto it. I'm not sure, but you might also be able to drag it onto their calling card if you have one (calling cards are in your inventory, and you should have them for all your friends, and sometimes other people too).

If they are online, they will be given the option to accept your offer of inventory (the notecard) which they accept or decline. If they are offline, you will be told that the item will be stored and offered to them when they log on again.

I don't know about sending to a whole group of people, unless dragging onto the calling cards works (I think you could drag it onto the folder?). If you are talking about an actual SL Group, if you are a member you may have permissions to send out group notices with attachments (the group owners set this permission). If you can send group notices, then I believe you can send attachments -- I've seen landmarks attached, so I assume you could also attach a notecard.

I don't know about how to do formatting in notecards. I don't remember seeing any text formatting (bold, italic, size), but I do know I've seen links to external websites. You can also embed pictures and other notecards, which show up as links that people can open to view them.

As for sending email, the only built in option I know of is the IM-to-email thing, and that only works if the recipient has enabled it. Some people have special gadgets that allow it, and others will provide their email address in their profile (or a web address, which has their email or a contact form). But if the recipient has not done any of these things, I don't believe there is a way you can contact them by email.
