Land Auctions - 65536m² land/server

Hi,

Can someone tell me why people are bidding up to 4.000 us$ for a 65536m² land/server when you can buy a new server for 1995 us$?

Because they are twats.

Because they believe they can make that money and more back when they chop it up and sell it. I have to sit and wonder just how many are losing money on that assumption, and how many are making money. Its a huge risk.

The only rational reason for buying mainland that expensive is because you are going to develop it on a long-term basis and hopefully recoup your investment.

There's more land then there are residents. I contemplated the pros and cons of buying a server and chopping it up, but with the hundred or whatnot regions they created and (keep creating) I cant forsee a need for all this land, you'll surely get stuck with a lot and pay HUNDREDS in land tier price.

Is every auction main land ?

Am I correct that if you sub-divide the land and you resell it that you have no monthly incomes ? Once sold the new owner pays directly to linden governer ?

So the only profit you can make is a ONE TIME profit ?

Me too, i have the money to invest / risk but can somebody make/show a business plan (profits/costs).

How many time do they have to invest on selling 65.000m² of land ?

I have spoken with somebody today who was making 20 us$ per month benefit per server.

So he has to make money with it or has won the lottery.

That's why I think land is overpriced. Islands are $1650.

Yes, islands are cheaper to buy, but they cost US$ 100 more in monthly fees, or am I wrong?

Yes that is true but I still think at 1675 that is a much more reasonable deal than 3 or 4 grand for a Mainland SIM which is the same size and you can't really control as much.

What is possible with main land / island ?
Is terreforming on mainland possible ?

1. Because the tier fees on Islands are higher.

2. There is no resale value on Islands (mind, I might never see any return on my purchase -- but I made the decision to see the money evaporate and not expect a return... I'm a realist). This is my weakest defense, I admit.

3. Because I want to live on the main land.

4. Because the sim (Necros) was so unbelievably gorgeous and perfect for my needs. It's a personal purchase -- no cutting up and reselling or strip mall or mass of condo rentals.

5. As for others, when I was doing my recon, I noticed that there are a few condo pushers who specialize in water front carbon copy property rentals and they seem to be battling each other. Thankfully I had no interest in water front property.
