Land Tier Fees...I don't understand!

I'm not quite sure how the land tier fees work. (I have a premium account).

I understand the following:

1. 512 sq.m. is included and not considered for tier fee calculations.

When I owned only my First Land I paid no tier fees. When I purchased an *additional 512* (1024 total, additional land 512), my tier fees started and were $5/month. So far so good.

When I purchased *another 512* (1536 total, additonal land 1024), my tier fees went up to $8/month. Fine.

When I purchased *another 512* (2048 total, additional land = 1536), my tier fees jumped to $15.

So, according to the land tier fee table, ADDITIONAL land fees are:

$5 for 512
$8 for 1024
$15 for 2048

My question is: Do people who own 1536 ADDITIONAL land 'rounded up' to the 2048 tier fee? This is very misleading.

Thanks for your help,
Linus

Yes, if you own 513, you're charged the next tier up. Same for the rest - even if you dont own the whole amount of land stated - just a part of it.

yes there is a "bottleneck" area if you look it says how much land you can own before your tier goes up so basically your in that area price jumps dramatically at that point. There is a "range" of land you can own before tier goes up again the next tier jump will be at the 2048 mark basically. Its also a bit skewed because of the free 512. If you look at your account info it will tell you how much land you can own before your tier jumps again :)

in a nutshell, or to sum up,

always round up.

so it would be up to 1024 = $8

up to 2048 = $15

etc

Great! Thanks everyone.

So, I have 1536 additional land now and pay $15/month.

When I own 2048 additional land I will STILL pay $15/month, correct?

yes if you own a total of 2049 though your price will go up again :)

by the way did they warn you about the addictive nature of prims?

And if you go below any tier level, dont forget to tier down. As far as i know its automatic going up, but going down you have to do it manually.

Going down is definitely manual...so absolutely don't forget that. Also remember that even if you own 2049 for 1 SECOND you will be charged the higher tier fee for that month.

Create a group and have that group own your land--you get a 10% sq. m. bonus.

I've also found that once you hit a plot size of about 4096, prims-limits aren't all that restrictive and you can generally get what you want done...

...of course...I'm down to only 500 spare prims on 17k sq. m....so...yes...prims are addicting.

Another question

Is $195/month the top limit regardless of wether you own MORE than 65536?

Above 1 sim, the tier goes up in 1/2 sim increments.

So if you own 65537m then you are charged for 1.5 sims

The info is in the knoweldge base.

One thing that confuses me is in the "land pricing and use fees" page its states that a person can own a maximum of 8192m of land and pay a $40 monthly tier. I own exactly 8192m. However, upon examining my account, I noticed a line that stated I can buy an additional 512m without increasing my $40 tier fee. This was labeled as a "premium bonus in square meters". How come they don't state that in the pricing page? I thought you only got bonuses for deeding your land to a group? I'm not complaining -- its cool.

Ive always hated those giant leaps to the next level

Not getting that in depth since theres been several threads on the concept, but Ive never been a big fan of the current tier system. Always felt we should pay for what we need and not be forced to eat a big chunk of tier just to buy a few more meters of land. Even if we could just go up in 512 increments or something. Having to double up everytime certainly blows. And no, I dont need to hear about all the tricks like using groups to get the extra 10 percent and no dont want to hear from those who liked to berate me for not being prim thrifty, ( not gonna buy a cheap couch to shave prims, Im willing to pay for tier to cover my extravagences). I just want to pay for what I use.

What I understand is:

If you go down below your current tier, then your "tier setting" on the web page will stay the same. However, as long as your actual land ownership is less than the higher tier you will not be charged the higher tier rate (except for the month in which you sold the land, because you owned the higher amount at some point during that month).

The only difference is that if you later buy some more land that puts you back into the higher tier, you won't be asked to visit the page again and increase your tier level.
