Forum Suggestion - Hoaxes

Barring any other measures or forms of communicating with residents, I think we need a forum category to make people aware of HOAXES. This would include both inworld hoaxes about gadgets, avatar, objects that steal your account info, lindens, inventory and those concerning viruses and such through internet & e-mail. Submissions could be made by residents when they become aware of a possible hoax. Pleeeease?

That's something that the Wiki would be a natural for... except for one thing:

Naming names.

LL (generally) doesn't permit residents naming other residents in a negative way, even if it is the truth.

If you can do it where you list generic kinds of hoaxes, without identifying specific individuals or groups, but just talk about methods and "things to watch out for", then it would likely fly, probably even with LL's blessing.

It's easy enough to create a page on the Wiki about it, and invite people to add their own to it, either directly, or via someone who keeps up with the page.

Given the threat (yet again) of them closing this forum down, I recommend you post them on SL Universe. There, you can even name-names.

Would be more affective to talk to a linden that controls these forums about this idea you have? try bringing it up at a linden office hour.

alexj- there are NO Lindens in these forums... there are practically no FORUMS in these forums.. the lights may be going out soon...

If their are no lindens in these forums so who deletes forum post? It wouldnt hurt to ask a linden at a office hour.

Usually the one that locks them is a resident mod and I believe they also move threads for Linden Review. If a Linden does in fact review them.

There already is a forum dedicated to SL hoaxes. This one. SL is the biggest hoax of them all.

Very few threads get locked or deleted here. When they do it is usually because the lone resmod, Millie, is notified of them via a report from a forum reader. She then either locks a thread or sends it to LL for review.

Some people say Lindens do silently read these forums. I don't believe it, at least with any frequency. Too many issues and questions that only a Linden can answer go unanswered. If they are reading, why don't they speak up?

I would like to nomonate Linden Lab................Perhaps the biggest scam,hoaxer of them all.

Naming names is useless unless you can somehow find the initial source of the hoax..which could actually come from e-mail or anywhere. It's a matter of simply letting people know which things are hoaxes.

Very true, though there have been cases where naming-names has prevented further scamming by that account.
