I never use AV streams in SL and don't know if any one Second Life "television" is better than the others. Can anyone recommend TVs they've had luck with? I'd like to be able to recommend something to folks who ask for advice.
Thanks!

Mudhoney has a great free one.
And then, I use America Free TV streams for it. Only the owner can change the media stream, and sometimes the streams go out (never all streams at once), but the only other options I know of for (free) content are the youtube 'streams,' and the SL TV streams - which are all SL or machinima content. I will send you a list of America Free TV URLs next time I'm in-world. Some TVs hook to it automatically; but with a modifyable TV you can put any texture on the TV screen, and match that to your media texture in 'about land.' Then you can also copy/paste URLs to media streams in the media tab. Grimes TV has some good products also. There was a place with a 'retro' model or two, I can look up if you wish. If you want that landmark also, IM me in-world. Otherwise I'll send LMs for Mudhoney and Grimes, and the URLs for the free movie streams. |

Crystalshard Foo's freebie one works fine for me. Same here. Her FreeView TV has all the options 99% of people would use, and the best part is it's mod and free. Nothing like turning an actual blank wall in your house into a media center big screen ![]() _____________________

Actually, you can put a texture on any flat prim and as long as it matches the texture in your media tab, you can watch movies on it. I've done that. Just copy and paste the media stream URLs into the media tab.
Just depends whether you want a tv-looking object for aesthetic purposes or not. |

I've been using the same @home television for years. They provide free upgrades and it streams in SLTV channels, music channels and an adult video channel which has controls so you can shut that feature off. You can play Youtube vids just by typing the url in local chat or you can make a personal playlist. I don't recall the exact limit on the playlist but I have over 100 youtube videos on mine.

I've been using the same @home television for years. same here. after the latest upgrade to @home 6.0 I'm particularly fond of the "web tv" feature. You never rent a video again with that. _____________________

Can some one help with a list of urls to put in my meda so i can watch it on my sims tv plz you can reach me in sl or on the forum Mystressy Canucci These are old royalty free streams. They often have films with major stars of the past. You won't really see recent films on here but it is all free. America Free Tv. On the downside, the more popular streams fill up fast and are not available always. I have an @Home TV, that I have n't used in ages. It had America Free TV. It had some great old movies on it, music videos, and.....adult entertainment. What? America Free TV is PG rated. The TV must've been loaded with...other options. I have not updated to version 6.0 because the webtv porn sites cannot be blocked if you want the TV to be accessible to general public (which I do). While I welcome people to hangout on my land I really don't want them to do so simply to watch porn. Before @home put in the PG setting to block the built in adult channels I had some unpleasant experiences with people on my land that were using the TV to watch the adult channel and the people at @home were kind enough to custom disable the channel for me, but there is no current way for me to disable access to pornsites through the webtv short of not making use available to the public so I will wait until they address the issue in a future update. I've asked the creator of the ultra big screen I bought to do that for the same reason - they accepted my note card, but no reply either way. :/ Which renders the tv pretty much useless. My options at this point are, severely restrict access to the parcel the tv is on, or remove it. (It gets youtube, and there are some fairly racy things there. I wanted the youtube portion to only be accessed by owner.) |

There's also specific Second Life channels and shows. Try this one, TreetTV, they have a lot of great programs which are made inside SL. Our hockey games are on the sports channel along with Simboarding, Snail Racing, car racing and others. Then they have fashion, talk shows, and a lot more.

I had an IM conversation with the principal of @home and he said my suggestion and point was a valid one that he would try to address in the next version. Another reason I like @home is their inworld customer support. They have staff in Europe and the U.S so you can usually find someone online to discuss issues and for technical help and when no one has been online I have found they responded to me very quickly. Youtube does not allow porn or even adult nudity. It doesn't even allow depictions of nudity outside of art which is why the jiggle tech video got removed after a few weeks, so I am not sure what it is that you find so racy that you don't want people watching it. ![]() They say they don't! You'd be amazed what I've found. (And), just like SL search, some odd things come up under the most 'benign' search terms. You're not sure what I've seen cos you're not me. ![]() Could you send me a LM for @home? |

Please try mine too
![]() I don't like tooting my own horn. But i've studied a lot of tv's and viewers before creating mine. Most tv's in SL still force you through a complex notecard process to deed the tv. Mine tries to explain the process on the screen itself. Also, most want you to use notecards, urls etc. for stuff like youtube, movies, channels etc. Mine tries to offer all this stuff directly through simple menus on the screen. Feel free to try it and tell me that it sucks or that I spam. (I can always use positive feedback... ![]() http://www.damanicorp.com/products/mediaviewer_info.php _____________________

After reading this thread I bought an @home TV, and I'm very pleased with it - even a simpleton like me can work it.

I went for the @Home system.
Includes both the classic movies channels and the treet.tv in SL network which is updated daily. Also lets you add videos from youtube, and if you enable adult mode tube8. Can be controlled from a website. Comes with preloaded adult movies that they change monthly if you enable adult (only useful if you need it for some piece of newb-land in an adult sim). And some other features. _____________________
