Right I'm getting very confused about prims. I have a parcel that supports 117 prims. There are now 118 prims in use there (I wanted to see what happens when you go over the limit). Then there's something called "Simulated Primitive usage".
How do I know how many prims I can use? Is this simulated primitive usage a buffer zone for all my land? So if that gets full I can't create anymore anywhere?

If you own more than one parcel in a single sim, that adds together for your "Simulator Prim Usage" limit.
A 512 M2 parcel supports 117 prims. Two 512 M2 parcels in the same sim could use 234 prims between them, distributed however you wish. All on one and none on the other is just fine.

Prims that are sat on does not count against your usage, but they are reported in the count. That my be why you see extras prims over the limit.

Woah…when you say prims that are sat on…does that include furniture like chairs, couches and beds? How do define sat on?

Uhhh... Right-click -> Sit, maybe? Right…got it…thanks…lol But does that mean that a bed… for example with 12 pims would not count against my total allowable prims?

From: DaQbet Kish Right…got it…thanks…lol But does that mean that a bed… for example with 12 pims would not count against my total allowable prims? it would only "not count" while someone was ACTIVELY sitting on it. The bed rezzed with =no one sitting on it= would count against your total prims. If you sit on the bed... and then rez more things.. the bed will not count.. but soon as you stand up.. it will count against your prims again.

That's the way I first read it too, DaQbet, but I think it means that a prim that someone is currently sitting on don't count against the parcel. Once they stand up, they go back to being counted.
/me guesses that a prim that's being sat on gets moved from being linked to the parcel to being linked to the agent. Once they stand up, it gets unlinked from the agent and goes back to being linked to the parcel.

Thanks guys, I do have more than one parcel, I am still a bit confused as to what the simulated prims bit means but as long as my renters can use prims it should all be fine.

What happens when you stand up if you are over your limit?
Could you sit on your house and add lots more items and they would be ok? lol

From: Ciaran Laval Thanks guys, I do have more than one parcel, I am still a bit confused as to what the simulated prims bit means but as long as my renters can use prims it should all be fine. You misread the dialog. It is "simulator", not "simulated". That number is the count of total prims for all parcels that you own in that simulator, IE the hardware that the 256M x 256M chunk of SL where your parcels are located runs on.

Thanks for correcting me but what does that mean to me? I mean was the post correct that said if I have two 512m parcels with 117 available on each that I could actually have all 234 on one parcel?

CAMPERS WANTED HAHA...that would be hilarious if you set up your house with a sit ball that made whoever was sitting on it fold up under the sink or in a closet or something. I'd pay someone L$3 every 10 minutes for that!

I'd pay someone L$3 every 10 minutes for that! Great until your mate opened up the closet to find someone folded up inside of it, leaving you to answer some very tough questions......

From: Walker Moore exactly. but only if those two parcels are in the same sim. Ok next stupid noob question, what's a sim? All my parcels are on the mainland, they're all pretty close together now that I sold my other piece of land. I could join all my parcels together if I wanted as they border each other in some way or another.

Ah right, they're all in the same named region. Thank you very much

Sims, or "regions" are the 256x256 meter blocks of land that make up the "grid". Each one is controlled by one set of independent processes, generally packed 4 sims per physical server. Each one is named, and is how you figure out where you are in the world.
