Ex-Group member; RL threats(Warning, "long" post.)

Now that I got your attention:
Maybe the guy that's doing it has some kinda special "Gadget", or maybe I just never knew about this "feature".

I have an SL "Motorcycle Club" for rides, & socialization. One member of the Club has been pretty quiet, until a few minutes ago, when he started pastin a whole paragraph worth of promo for his(?) modelling agency (I know I know, biker...modelling...don't ask).

After he was ejected from the Group for spamming, general inactivity & a bad attitude when I told him ta quit spammin up the Group channel w/ entire, OFF-TOPIC, paragraphs...he sent me the "Folder of Image Spam" trick, via my Profile. I was already in the process of Muting his avatar.

I was probably wrong ta send his Image Spam back to him, but I got a lil...frustrated.

After this, he comes back into the Group Channel & makes threats not only that I will "Regret it", but that his RL Motorcycle Club is comin to my Apt (He might work in I.T., and be in the process of tracking my I.P. & home address, so yeah it's feasible. We did it when the FBI walked into a Cyber Cafe for an ISP I used to work for, looking for a Sex Offender who had been caught surfing child porn.) right now.

In other words the question is:

1. How can I, or is it even possible, to keep somebody from spamming your Group when they aren't a member?

2. Should I call the cops, or any other agency?
(Thats "unlike me", but I don't mind sharing the information that I'm a diagnosed bipolar & borderline psychotic in RL. I avoid potential violence like the plague, and only work Part-Time, because of past experiences. A "good" example would be when I stabbed an ex RL Club member 7 times with a deer hunting knife...just for stealin my backpack full of CDs, DvDs, and my medication. I doubt that he realized he stole my meds of course. Charges were dropped by him within hours when the doctors told him that he would live; which is why I'm here and not in jail for attempted manslaughter. Ask folks who know me in game and they'll say I'm as funny as a comedian and usually real calm.) SL has has taught me RL patience. "..and I reckon Imma talk sum more good better English too."

Ever since that idiotic RL incident, I have tried to become a "pacifist ", and have lowered my drinking from once or twice a week, to once a month, if at all. (not in any potential physical self-defense cases that might happen God forbid...)

3. Is there any defense whatsoever against Image Spam via my Profile??

Folks w/ flamethrowers "please hold the flames". I'm only askin if there are more ways to ignore this idiot and keep the RL Chicago chapters (yes, plural) of his M.C.C., the Ruff Ryders ...whatever division... from bringin violence to my RL home, which could end in potential serious injury or death, for myself, or people they send to my apartment.

As for reporting this, you need to check what laws your state has against sending threats by electronic devices/networks/whatever language they use to refer to the internet. States have varying laws of more or less helpfulness.

Even without a specific law, it's still a threat you can report. Problem is, if you can't provide identifying information on the guy, there isn't much that the police can do to help you. The best that the police could do would be to investigate the complaint by talking to the guy, and they can't do it without identifying information.

If you think that the threat is serious enough, consult with a lawyer about any civil action you can take to protect yourself. What you can do will depend primarily on state laws.

Good advice Amity...I'm lookin for the local Precinct phone# right now, so I can ask them where ta check for info on those laws (I'm pretty dam sure I gotta call a specific division or something, but I'll do a backflip if the regular cops there know anything about it, heh).

In the past I would have just told this clown ta "bring it" & got some guns, or took my chances & faught em when or if they came here. (Let's just say I can type "proper" (well not really) American English, but every neighborhood I ever lived in includin this one has easy access to the black market & crack.)

Now that I think about it, I'm still gonna call the cops...but is this guy's M.C.C. REALLY gonna do anything about this 2nd Life argument? Better "Safe Than Sorry" I guess *shrugs*. Whatever.

Ok with that said ...I know that people get hurt for very little in this day and age ... but realy ...do you think anyone of his so called gang would even risk doing anything just for the fact that he was muted and kicked out of a group on a simulated internet world ?

Just to cover your ass i would however contact your local law enfourcment just so they have a record of this incase somthing untoward should happen ..witch i dout very very very much.

But if such a gang excist's i would hazzard a guess that at least one of them would have the brain cell's to see that anyone who wanted to go and kill somone for a silly thing like this would step in and say " hey ... my server is in need of major repair ... get lost " haha .

Lost, you make perfect sense. In Chicago where I live we do have a lotta actual gang-members workin jobs, but I have only known maybe...TWO...who were in I.T.

One of them, I worked with and he refused to give up his gang affiliation, but he did turn his main mission in life to gettin knowledge on "our" current and even past mistakes in ancient history so that he wouldn't repeat em. Not your "best candidate" for a "hitman" *shrugs*

Most guys in ANY kinda gang here, who have a Full-Time Job, are tryna take care of a family, or somethin...and even if they got so drunk that they were on the verge of alcohol poisoning...would laugh this idiot out the door just like you said.

The cops gave me the same advice that you did.

I try to kick out fools when I identify em in this 2nd Life Club due to thier actions... looks I made a bad call on this guy.

I just wanted to point out, though, that for thousands of people in Second Life, it is trivially easy to get your IP address.

Combine that with a geolocator service that maps IP addresses to physical locations, and it's quite possible that someone can find out what city you live in.

I honestly don't understand why more people aren't aware of that, and why it seems to be the "quiet secret" that to my mind is far more worrisome than everything getting such a hubbub lately.

As for your specific circumstance, the guy is probably talking out his ass, and you have now at least notified the local authorities to have it on record. There are laws that may apply as well to the threats, but you seem to be already aware of those.

As to how he was able to keep IMing into the group, if he still had a group IM window which was opened before he was booted out of the group, he could keep using it to post until closed.

I think you have been given good advice.I highly doubt any Biker Gang Banger would be on SL in the first place.

Of course if you ask the pretend gang bangers in SL More than HALF will claim to be For Real Gangseters, or Mafia , or whatever in their Real Lives.

And most of their pretend bitches riding behind them will claim to be for real women.

until he logs off etc he still has access to group chat its wierd I know but there is a period of time he can see what you are saying and reply back. Its not a hack or anything its just the way it is. When he logs out he will no longer be able to do that
