I have a sky platform at 300m and I want a friend to be able to build items on the platform. He can build on my land, he can rez out his motorcycle and ride it on my platform, but he cannot build on my platform.
I'm clueless as to why, and suggestions? (I had this in the Building Tips forum but did not get very much feedback.)

I am not an expert, but I know you can build on the ground and then in the objects tab add 300 to the number of each object in the Z axis. This will shoot that object up 300 meters once you hit the return key.

Hi Robin! I'll come by later and take a look if you can't figure it out by then. I'm not sure I can diagnose the problem from work. I'll see you in Kush later!

that sounds odd. could there be a portion of your platform over a neighboring plot who has build turned off? you could easily get half a 10x10 prim over a neighbor's no-build plot without realizing it.

Thanks Rock, I'll be back in an hour or so, or if you see Mecke you can try with him, he is the one trying to build up there. I've got permissions set for our group.

Robin? A quick way to check your building platform positioning is to put a brightly colored prim at each corner of your parcel on ground level, and then send each of them to 300M up by editing the Z-axis for them. You may find your platform isn't completely over your land.
Also, 300 M isn't a good building altitude. 200 to 300 M is in the 'cloud layer', and you may have a lot of invisible Linden-owned prims drifting through that get in the way. I recommend you move up to 400M.

Checking you are above you own land. I know it isn't the techie method but when building my house I walked around the edge of my platform looking top of screen and listening to the music. As long as it said "Andrew and Mirina's ...." and I heard the same music I assumed I was in the right place. I looked at the coordinates on the ground to compare those too. I was a tiny bit out so easily changed before I started on the serious stuff. No I didn't fall off the edge .. much Andrew

I allways build in the air at about 400 - 500 metres. Before starting on a new plot I lay out a platform on the ground using the plots edges as a guide and completely cover all of my ground space, then I send the platform to the desired height. This will allow you to determine your plot dimensions in the sky.
Edit: also get your self a flight feather! will eliminate the chance of you plummeting to earth if you happen to wander off of your platform. Search SLX for 'flight feather'. they are free.
