Hi anyone ever had their logos made in SL? I'm wondering what roughly is the average market price for one of these in SL. For example a signage for a shop?

well, I have two friends who are pretty heavy on the graphics background who've made their own. Shoot me an IM in world if you'd like me to ask if they could take a job on of that type. You could see their store signage and logos too, heh, make sure they are good at what they do;) ... I doubt they'd charge an arm and leg..maybe just one or t'other ;)

I'm not that good with graphics myself.. I had to build mine out of prims and then screencap it, lol!

I agree with Kyrah, same as RL. For stuff that's just gonna sit on a shelf and sell endless copies, price isn't that big a deal. A handful of dollars for each adds up quickly enough. But for stuff that's one-off, like a logo, if someone wants my time, they have to be willing to pay for what that time is worth.

I'd imagine the demand for this sort of thing in SL is pretty low though. Most people who operate stores are content creators, which means they have artistic skill, and so can create their own logos. I'm sure there are exceptions, of course, but for the most part, I think it's safe to say anyone who actually would need to purchase a logo likely wouldn't be able to make the things that are sold in SL stores.

Yes I understand all the above posts...but what I'm trying to figure out is can anyone give me a rough estimate in terms of monetary value?

RL a simple logo can cost between $35-$150. So what...do I like.....translate that as an exchange rate into Linden dollars? Is 500L too cheap? or is it more? 5000L?

Thats what I'm trying to guestimate....to come up with a rough estimatation of how much a simple shop logo can cost in SL.

If anyone could give it to me I would appreciate it very much.

Thanx.

Content creators aren't necessarily graphic artists. There are builders, scripters, musicians, animators, etc., who are good at what they do but might not be able to design professional looking logos, textures, etc. The converse is also true.

In RL there are semi-custom logos made from "templates" (pick and choose graphics, fonts, etc., from a limited set and voila you have a logo), then there are fully custom ones where the logo-maker really spends time with the client to gather requirements, test a few ideas, etc.

I could see good semi-custom ones going for US$5 or $10, while more customized ones from $25 and way up (or likely an hourly charge with either a min or a max.)

In RL, many logo charges pay not just for the logo, but also stationary design (envelopes, letter head), etc., which don't really apply to SL.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for. Since you wouldn't be using it on a web site, printing it on corporate material, merchandizing it, or in general doing anything else with the logo except using it as an uploadable texture in SL, I'd guess someone would be willing to overlook the added cost and time of branding and market research and charge a reasonable hourly rate.

A professional designer would probably not be interested in the job becuase their minimum is likely to be above US $150 for a single job.

SL, however, is full of hobbyists and creative people that are willing to work for low hourly rates simply because they enjoy the challenge and the learning experience. You may find someone compatible for this job in the range of $35-$150. I've seen ads in the services section of this forum offering exactly that type of help.

I"m going to agree with Namssor. To get a really good professional to design and make a custom logo would cost quite a bit more than getting a hobbyist or amatuer to do it.......if you could even talk them into getting involved at all. I surely can understand the pros not wanting to do such a project for anything less than a comparable RL price........their expertise is worth way more than someone like me.:) I get the impression you are wanting to get a ball park figure for a fair fee because you may be considering such work? If that's the case you might want to just set a fee (say 100 lindens) plus the cost of uploads in excess of about 3 for the evaluation by the person wanting the logo. What I'm trying to say is that you would make from 70 to 90 lindens minimum (there will always be at least one upload fee). That's not much I know but if you are not a professional then then it would be way out of line to charge the same fees. The reason I suggest any more than 3 uploads for the evaluations is that the "buyer" can nitpick you to death with numerous uploads to get a "pro" quality graphic when, in fact, he's paying for an amatuer.

But you can set it anyway you want..........."whatever the market will bear" :)

There are professional logo designers in SL. I got my logo from one of them (Dalian Hansen), after going through several drafts and revision procedures, but the price was high. However, for logo design, I believe the old principle about paying experts has always applied: "One small screw: 5c. Knowing where to put it: $4999.95."

There are also logo designers in SL. Some do excellent work, some don't. But you might need to try.

For reference, I did once try to get some professionally done icons for a gadget. The artist wanted the equivalent of L$23000 per icon. Of course I couldn't afford it, but a look at their portfolio immediately told me why that wasn't unreasonable.

I have a Dear friend who is a professional Graphic Artist (Four Decades in the Business), I asked him, the going rate is actually $75 to $150 Per Hour.
A Good Artist can Meet with a client, and have a rough ready in a couple of Hours, and the Finished work done in Two to Eight Hours depending upon Complexity. If the client wants Changes well, Literally, Back to the Drawing board, and more time on the Clock. It is Not unusual for a logo design to cost in Fact $1,500 to $3,000.

But, that is the work of Professional Artists in the Real world.

In SL,,Well, the work is Not dissimilar, but see how much Business you drum up by telling clients your rate is L$18,000 per hour (Low end of the spectrum). I would venture at those rates, you would have a Fine career awaiting you in the Second Life Food services Indistry (Something involving paper Hats).

My advice, Guess. Don't try to base it on RL, it won't work. IF you do Fine work, and it takes you a Day or two, Ask for L$1500, If your client smiles, you may be on the Low side. If he doesn't Blink, you are probably On the Money. If he Leaves, Lower Prices.

I believe I paid $200 USD for mine and some alternates of it - and I use them on everything - great for branding and worth the money spent. Make sure you have exhaustive conversations with your designer so you are really happy with what you end up with. You don't want to have to make changes after your products are identified with a certain image.

Those make real graphic designers cry. ;)

For a while an RL graphic artist was working in SL under the name Closer Look (can't remember her avatar name off the top of my head) and was priced reasonably.

I'd probably charge by hour personally, at the low end of a RL job equivalent. So L$10,000 per hour. No one's willing to pay that, so I'll stick to making clothes. ;)
