I'd like to see what different 'sexy walks" actually look like. Is there a way to make my POV move to allow me to see myself from the front or side when I walk?
Thanks!

If you have the walk animations in your inventory, you can just click on them and run them like an ordinary animation/pose. You will walk in place and can move your camera all around. If the animation is in your animation overrrider, you'll have to detach it and rezz it on the ground, then open contents and click on the animation in the contents. Again, you'll walk in place.

It doesn't really seem possible to have your camera in front of your av looking at it, or beside your av, and have it follow along while you walk. When we got the fancy new llSetCameraParams, the first thing I tried to do was see what my av looked like from the front while walking, but it just doesn't seem possible. The camera always gets dragged along behind you as you walk.

Walking Twards the Camera Is possible.

I do it often, myself. I`m not in-world at the moment to test it, though, so I apologize in advance if this doesn`t work, but I`m pretty sure that this is how I do it: Just use the down-arrow key to "walk backwards". You should turn around and walk twards the camera until you stop, when you should turn around again to face the original direction.
You might also try opening with and playing with the Camera Control and Movement Control windows, both available from the View menu. |

Use Client, Debug Settings, CameraOffsetDefault, and change the X value. Exit Second Life.
Doing this will cause an entry for CameraOffsetDefault to appear in the settings.xml file, which on a default Windows install of SL will be in C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR-USER-NAME-GOES-HERE\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml. Using a text editor, find the entry for CameraOffsetDefault and change the first number following CameraOffsetDefault to a positive number, which will be the number of meters in front of you the default camera position will be at. When you restart SL the default camera should be in front of you. If you put the camera farther in front of you than your default focus, you should be looking at yourself from the front. You can change the camera default focus position while SL is running using the Debug Settings. That is called FocusOffsetDefault. Changing that with the Debugs Settings works while you change it. The Debug Settings dialog does not work properly for the CameraOffsetDefault, it doesn't respond to the change that you make until you exit and restart SL, and it clips the value to 0 if you try to make it positive, hence the need to edit the settings.xml value manually. You will have to press the forward arrow key to walk towards the screen and the down arrow key to walk away from the screen. This is what I ended up with in the settings.xml file to change the default camera offset: CODE <!--Default camera offset from avatar--> Just pasting the above into the settings.xml file in an appropriate position while SL is not running should do the trick. _____________________

There's a much simpler way.
Right click on the land somewhere a good distance away and select "Go Here." Your avatar will begin automatically walking in a straight line to the destination as long as you don't move any directional keys. In that time you can hold down Crtl and Alt and rotate the camera around your avatar with the mouse as you would normally. |

The pace of many walk anims is not synchronized with the speed at which an avatar moves across the ground, so this still presents a problem for those intending to check that. ![]() _____________________

In the "Client" menu (former Debug) you find an item called "Double Click Auto Pilot". Tick this on, ten cam far away from your avatar, so it is facing you. Then double click on a spot in front of your camera.

You can see yourself from the side by holding shift + left or right. I did this a lot while testing wing flap animations.

Here's another way to see yourself from the front: pop this script in a prim and attach it.
CODE
This will make the camera position stay fixed at the spot it was at when you attached the object. This will let you walk and fly the avatar around while the camera stays still. When you get tired of admiring yourself or depressed from noticing minor flaws detach the object and the camera will return to normal. _____________________

I bought a handy little gadget that lets me walk towards my camera when ever I want to see myself from the front. It is from Qie Labs it is called a mirror cam. You just wear it.

Any scripters know how to use llSetCameraParams to get the camera to stay in front of you looking at yourself as you move about?

Don't even need a second PC. Care to elaborate? Is this possible on a Mac? Inquiring minds want to know. |

Care to elaborate? Is this possible on a Mac? Inquiring minds want to know. There's a switch which can be added to SL client shortcut that allows to launch more than one copy of client at any given time, if i recall right. Can't remember what the actual value of switch is, though :/ re: the original question, i made myself an 'auto-walk' attachment of sorts a while ago, which lets to switch between different movement paces from casual walk to run and makes the AV move on their own without need to hold keys. A nice side effect is you can pan camera the usual way while your AV keeps walking, and see them from all angles this way. I think there's commercial item which works to very similar effect... "walk and talk" or something like this ^^;; |
