What does it mean if a sim is red?

What does it mean if a sim is red? I thought meant its down, but my friends are saying other things.

If you're seeing it on the minimap it should mean that the viewer lost its connection to (or couldn't connect to) that particular sim.

It doesn't have to mean that sim crashed though (if you pull your net cable, it'll eventually go red even though obviously the sim is fine for everyone else) although usually it will.

the MAP is a little behind telling you the region is down. this would explain why you see it offline (or shaded red) when the region is online.

It happens to me when my computer loses connection with SL. The sim is always fine - just my connection to it.

It takes a while for it to register, though - first I notice I can't move (except rotate) and can't hear anyone speaking to me, and nobody else is moving. Then, much later, the minimap turns red.....

I sometimes say it when it has gone red on the lag meter, but sometimes the region on the minimap goes red when it is about to crash/it has crashed.

Can you confirm what you mean by the sim being red? If it's on the minimap, you have your answer. If you're seeing stuff in the sim with a red glow around it, that's a different issue. If you're seeing it on the map, then I have no idea. Maybe Communists.

OK... there's quite a lengthy time delay when it comes to updating the maps. Sims crash from time to time and when they do the map shows them up as red with (offline) next to the sim's name. It should be helpful but most times the sim in question is already rebooting by the time it shows up as offline on the map.

Which explains why crashed sims aften look 'normal' on the map and why you hear from friends in sims that are marked red (offline) on the map.

It's blushing. This happens when people teleport in without remembering to cover their shame.

When I've seen red sims on the main map, they've always had the '(offline)' by the name and I cannot TP there, nor can anyone else I'm with. This is also what you'll see on the map when sims are going thru the restarts that LL does - if it takes more than a few minutes. When the restart works correctly, the sim goes offline and is back up before the main map usually even notices.

When my mini-map goes red, it almost always means that I've had one of those ghost-crashes where my avi stays there, all looks right with the world, but I cannot move or communicate with anyone. Seems like the map going red occasionally takes quite a while though and if I wait that long, shortly after it goes red I will *sometimes* get a message telling me that I have lost my connection to SL. Most of the time, I notice the death before the mini-map actually changes to red and I simply relog.
