Sim dumps on hiatus?

With ten minutes left in tonight's pricey sim auctions, there are no new sims in the queue.

Is everyone at LL to busy working on First Look bugs to set more sims for sale, did they run out or are they preparing for another 40 sim dumparooni?

That plan they had to lower prices and thwart the landbots is working like gangbusters.

Glad I bought land when I did. Looks like prices are going up lately.

I thought they were going down. I checked a few weeks ago and the cheapest 512 was 13 per meter, i checked today and it is now 11 a meter.

Anyone got more relialble information?

Calm before the storm? Gotta love that volatility.

P.s. I thought you wasn't going to post about land anymore Ray.

A few weeks is an eternity in SL, Itchy. :) Since then, LL dumped a ton of sims and the prices went down, and now they're on their way back up because there aren't any more on the auction block.

Hey, I thought Raymond was done with land market too - maybe it's like a disaster waiting to happen and you just can't stay away? I know I keep trying to peel myself away, but it's so fascinating I just keep coming back.

Perhaps I need to check out that get a real life thing.

This is not about land. It's about the auction page. ;)

Still no new sims listed...

Truth is, talking about it keeps me from tiering up and actually buying and selling. I post to save myself.

It's residual from the previous land dump. When that runs out, we will be back up to 13/m because resellers will then be buying up the 11s and 12s to make a sale.

Ummm ... Betty Ford Clinic possibly?

No mystery here. This is typical LL reactive rather than proactive behavior. They concentrate 100% on mainland until they get so far behind in their private islands that they have to switch to the latter and neglect mainland for a while, rather than trying to find a balance where both needs are satisfied.

The haitus is over! They just dumped a whopping one sim to the auction page. Looks like tomorrow will be Black Friday! ;)

And everybody laughed when I suggested everybody's favourite "millionaire" estate owner was buying sims because she might have been briefed about an upcoming hardware supply problem...

Talk more about that, it sounds interesting, makes me wonder what the hardware supply problem could be.

Did a truck break down? lol.

She is buying Mainland again? At 3K per sim when the population growth is slowing? Not as smart as when she got them for 1K each and the room for growth was enormous.

Unless she got insider info...

Not sure about a hardware supply problem. How much have they sold of the new continent?

BTW, phone weasel jumped the shark yesterday. The new phrase to get laughs is "toaster squirrel".

Well I just took a look round the New Continent and a whole block of un-named sims has just appeared in the East. Their the edge is a temporary straight line, indicating more to come.

Ah, so tis the calm before the sim storm yet again. Thanks for the reconnaissance mission! Those rumors about you being a toaster squirrel were way off base.

I hope they make more PG rated land: /327/f5/174149/1.html

I wonder if they are waiting for land prices to get back up to a certain price before they dump it and crash the market?

What is a toaster squirrel?

The only thing that would truly crash the market would be a dump of a thousand sims in one day, or over the course of a month. Hundreds of sims. 40 sims in one day didn't truly crash it - that was only a minor adjustment that brought prices down maybe 1 L/m2. A 20-sim dump brought the prices down to about 11L/m2 (after resellers). To get land to 7L/m2 (after resellers) would take a huge, huge plunge where sims don't sell far beyond 1000 USD. And to do that, it would take a sustained rate of a couple hundred sims per week. LL isn't going to do that unless Google buys them out. :p

We should also take note of the fact that the rate of new sign-ups is slowing down; lower sign-up rates mean that the same land-release rates should be more effective than before (though actually catching up with demand may take some doing).

16 sims up for auction. Should keep the base price on mainland search where it is once they sell...at around 11.3 per sq. m.

A toaster squirrel is a phone weasel's arch nemesis.

Actually, the sim dumps have started back up again. I guess it was just a weekend off. Whichever Lindens deal in land prep and addition tot he grid, deserve a short break with the pace they have been keeping recently. Much of LL might be asleep at the wheel, but these folks are doing a decent job, IMHO.

Hmm well there's a limit somewhere, we seem to have more land for sale than people, do a hop around the new continent and the islands, the yellow tag amoebae are spreading faster than grey goo.

I'm guestimating possibly 50% of all land in SL is for sale at the moment.
And it will have to get cheap to convince people the tier you sign your virtual soul to is worth it.
