Between you and I, this is all about the law and corporate CYA. Therefore, I'd like to know what exactly (or close to exactly) LL must do to keep the lawsuits and criminal prosecution at bay. Why do they supposedly have a higher standard than a pornography site ? I don't KNOW that they have a higher standard, but the pervasive rumor is that pornography sites only need credit cards and nothing more.

Simple, porn sites dont have advertisers like Nike, Wells Fargo, Homeland Security, BMW, etc..

Just a few days ago before this verification process came to be, people where constantly flaming LL for allowing alts, and such, now LL cracks down on it... well lets complain about that too. It just goes to show, no matter what someone does, someone else is going to complain about it, I would suggest that if someone doesnt like the process, then someone should go to "My Computer" to "Control Panel" to "add/remove software" and uninstall the second lifef viewer.

Two problems prevent this thread from catching on and being a success:

1) People are too busy replying to the 23786762 other related threads.

2) Clearly this forum is all about reactionary speculation by the uninformed masses, interspersed with arrogant rebuttals by people who are equally ignorant but think their superior vocabularies somehow make up for it, all blended together into an orgy of self-serving uselessness. Politely asking for sensible, reasoned analysis by people actually qualified to do so goes against everything this forum stands for. Sorry.

Second Life certainly has a few attorney residents, though I wouldn't count on this being anyone's specialty, but I strongly suspect that the most they could give is a somewhat more informed opinion than non-attorneys, and even they recognize that the law is always subject to the interpretation it will receive on that particular day in court. There may be good reasons to believe it'll go one way or another, but there's never any certainty. IANAL, YMMV, TANSTAAFL, and all other fun acronyms, TLA and otherwise.

Other than having corporations in SL as the reason, I think it's also because they have the US Department of Homeland Security creating a sim for themselves. Plus they have the FBI lurking around casinos and whatever else.

As I said here, I've been adviced by a Legal Professional that I should not give out my personal details they're asking for. LL have been breached before and our payment details accessed. They've got an awfull reputation on the internet. Just look at the BBB site. We have NO customer care whats so ever, the Open Letter has been ignored, and now they want us to give them details that NO other game requires.
While I understand why they're doing it, there are many other ways to do so- Just one example To me, this just seems like another way for LL to get money, not only though us but throught the third party, also a way to hide if legal issues appear. I suggest getting a real legal team together guys

As I said in the blog, here in the UK, you must be 18 to have a credit card (not a debit card) so there for, in your own statement the UK are void from this matter providing we have a credit card on record. You can argue that it could be a minors parents card, but then the legal reprocustions fall on the card owner, not LL. Re instagate (yet again) payment info, but then add into it the COPA Commision. OK, you wont get money from it but you may not lose members that other wise could leave (doubt you care though)

I'd also like to point out that many people I've spoken to, don't trust you with our details, you're reputation is appauling when it comes to your customers. It's not that we're trying to hide anything sinister, it's that we're trying to protect our privacy and possible ID theft incase LL get breached yet again.

Once again, yet again- You have my CC details, that's all you're getting. I'm in the UK, I have a credit card. Thats proof I'm over 18.

Although I'm not the said magistrate in the hyperlinked section, the person that advised me is. Not sure if that will help anyone outside the UK. Here we have a CAB that we can also go to for legal help

Clearly LL must 10x all tier charges immediately so they can raise enough funds to fight the US Government legally then with physical force if necessary for the right for unverified people to participate in simulated sexual acts and view bizarre sexual imagery.

It ok to up tier because its free money with most of the population being free accounts they won't feel any problems at all. Also they should start auctioning $100k batches of Lindens on Ebay to fund themselves breaking away from the evil Tyranous rules of all governments.

I have seen it in the stars, Phillip has his own satilites and in the earth already are the glass cables of Lindon magic to cross to the centre of the Pacific Ocean where the old Australian Aircraft carrier Melbourne has been fitted out by the Leggo people with millions of class 9 servers that will be our new home till the fitted Ion engines are complete.................
