I'm one week old this weekend.........seems like longer...lol I already have a vision for my future here in SL. But I got questions......of course. My plan is to buy land and open something (that is a secret). I DON'T BUILD OR CREATE!! SO I have to rely on the creations and services of those who do build. Here are my questions! 1) When flying around and spotting a building I like the looks of. How do I find out who created it to see IF they sell buildings or their services? 2) Can anyone recommend a few good builders/architects with visable structures for me to look at? Is there a list of top designers/architects? Webistes? 3) Here is the newbie question...........are all buildings designed that you can go inside? I know there is prim limits, does that apply to avatars? 4) What is trading limits?Seems that if I want to purchase something expensive, I can't...... Thats enough for now!! Thanks Aislinn

All I can answer it #3. Yes you can go inside and no avatars are not counted as prims. But I can predict some of the responses you might get. Most likely will be this post is in the wrong place. Help or service wanted is more appropriate. That being said, their are many builders here that I'm sure can do what you want done...........however, your secret will be out.

*Welcome to Second Life!* 1) Right click on anything you see in world that is an object and select edit. The box that opens will show you who the original creator was and who currently owns it. There will be profile buttons next to the names, so you can IM the creator for more details on where to get more of their products. 2)I'm not sure. You can go into search and type in homes or skyboxes to find some stores. These sites sell some buildings. http://www.slexchange.com http://www.slboutique.com The creators should be listed here also in case you want to ask them to custom build you something. 3)Unless a building is designed just to be a decoration, they will be fully functional with doors, windows, elevators, etc. Every building I have ever seen is functional and can be entered. The views can be a little weird in some though. Avatars do not count toward the prim limit count. Nothing an avatar is wearing does either. 4)I'm not sure about this one. I think it has to do with trading land.

You may need to click on the 'More' button after going into Edit in order to see this. It's shown on the first tab, 'General.'

Read Gaybot's answers... expanding on #4, trading limits depend upon how long you've been in SL. After an introductory period, (a month or so), they should increase a little. AFter that, its more like RL credit. See this page: http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=327Basically, If you're a merchant with an SL business, the limits will increase. If you're brand new, no track record, the Lindens are not going to allow you to launder infinite amounts of illegal funds through their systems. And there's a process to contact the Lindens to ask for an increase, if you have a need to increase your limit.

You can find a list of content creators in the Second Life Developer Directory. http://secondlife.com/developers/directory.php

To be more accurate, this is only content creators who have an interest in doing external development work for RL companies. There are many hundreds of other content creators in Second Life who may be interested in helping with an internal project.

gosh! you sound like me a few weeks ago, except that i learned , AND can teach you too...how to terraform and build, i designed my whole sim from scratch, and have done most everyhting there if you would like to take a look, i woul dbe happy to chat with you also, it is called Atlantis, i wnated to do a bit of te old worl d so the waterfall is from before atlantis sank....the rest of the island is new development, when it sank it moved, heer to SL, and then rose again! i made up the story and then went from tere...weve aso created magic heer, sort of like its last place to hide
anyway i love to do this stuff now and am pretty damn good at it, if you need help, i would only take donations ..i WOULD NOT CHARGE you any fee, as this would be the first time i work for another also i HATE buisness ethics in here, i WILL LISTEN to what you want it to be...the point for all of us is to cretae our dreams, depending on another to do it for you, in a place where misunderstanding is easy, can be worrisome i love to have someone drop in and interject or critique and play with ideas while i work this should not be a problem to try to make YOUR vision come to life im pretty sure you will find that a few more tips send YOU a very long way

. I'd like to add to this. I've had issues with this procedure and have found that I often have to right click on the object one more time after opening an edit box on it. The first right click/edit opens an edit box, but its all grayed out....the second one show the information Gaybot was mentioning.

For some reason, a version or two of Second Life ago, the Lindens decided to remove the ability to Edit Linked Parts on items owned or made by other people. Presumably they thought it made it too easy to reverse engineer things other people had made (although I'd never heard of it being used for that, and it was useful for people who just wanted to learn). As a side effect of that, if you right click and edit on an item owned by someone else, you enter Build mode but the item isn't selected. To avoid this, instead just click on the Build button at the bottom of the screen, then choose the "edit" option and click on the item.

(dragging my mouse down to the bottom and then back up again is inefficient in my book)

The listing is of people in SL that are willing to create content on a per-project basis. It does not matter, to me anyway, if the entity requesting the service is a company or a fellow citizen of SL. -2fast

You say you don't build or create. But I think that you would probably enjoy doing this once you've learned the ropes. The system is a bit daunting for beginners but essentially once you know the processes, building stuff is simple and compulsive. It boils down to: - Learning how to manipulate prims (primitive shapes, or building blocks, such as cubes, spheres, cones, that can be stretched, moved, rotated, duplicated etc.) Learning how to link prims to make complex objects such as a hut, boat or chair, and how to unlink them to make alterations. Learning how to apply colours and textures to prims or complete objects.
