Over the past few months, I have been spending time on the Beta Grid. Usually, there are a few dozen people there.

Why is that??? Shouldn't there be lots and lots of people there, pounding the shit out of it to find the problems? OK, so there aren't enough Lindens, but then shouldn't Linden Lab be encouraging lots and lots of us to hang out there, build there, texture there, run every script we own there, and see what breaks?

i see Linden statements every week. "Go use the Beta grid." Well, Lindens, that doesn't seem to work. You need to have a better plan for getting people to use the beta grid more.

i can think of a lot of things that would make the beta grid more attractive to me, and I bet everyone else can too.

Pay people to use it.

In the real world, Software testing isn't free.

Even just camping rates like L$3/10m. Let that L$ accrue in your REAL GRID account.
Then you'll get people working over there more often.

I completely agree. As someone who passionately believes in and supports the whole of Second Life, I'm still hard pressed to take time away from my main grid business and pleasure activities to go over to Aditi and test beta software. I'm willing to do it, if they're willing to compensate me for it.

This is a GREAT idea and way better than camping chairs! I agree though, people need an incentive to go to the beta grid. Time is precious, why spend it on the beta grid when you can spend it on the real one. Another game I play has a "rehearsal" grid for new content and the payoff is getting to do everything first, what is the fun of getting to find the bugs first?

Pay people to use the beta grid, give them another free 512 sqm of land before having to pay tier (if premium) or something that is beneficial but doesn't cost LL anything extra. I'd definitely do it if I was running low on $L's, it can be a better way for basic's to ear some spending $L's and be productive.

Great idea!

i can think of a lot of things that would make the beta grid more attractive to me, and I bet everyone else can too.
The ability to "pull in" sims from the main grid on demand would go a long way. From what I understand that shouldn't really be a problem since every sim can instantly be loaded up on any server of the same class.
The ability to transfer full permission content from the beta grid back to the main grid would firmly push it over the edge.
(Also optionally bridge presence and IMs across the main and beta grids)

Content creators of all sorts are probably the one category of people who'll run into bugs the quickest and the category (other than script writes who can simply copy/paste) who is probably the least likely to use beta since all their work would be for nothing (other than test-uploading animation/textures to save on upload fees on the main grid).

I was on the beta grid the last time, but since all of the content there are things I've never really seen before I didn't spot the "no colour" bug. When I finally logged at home, I spotted it in a single second, because I know what my house is supposed to look like.

There's no incentive for the average user to log on to the beta grid, there's literally nothing to do there.

I'd be thrilled to build on the beta grid, if I could packet my builds up and get them in the main grid.

Winter you have some great ideas.

I'd be on the beta grid in a moment if I could a) pull a snapshot of my island in, b) build stuff that I could transfer back to the main grid, and c) get paid L$100 per hour for doing it.
