I don't think I've ever actually quit SL... Well, maybe a couple of times, but usually I just crash at some point. Sometimes I log back in, sometimes I call it a night.
It's not all bad: sometimes those 1 a.m. crashes are the only thing between me and staying up 'til 2!

If I started crashing after a memory upgrade, I'd reseat the memory chips , unplug every connector and plug it back in, one at a time, check the fans, make sure they are spinning and not clogged with dust,,and make a note of what the make, model, and wattage of the power supply is.
If that didn't fix it then I'd try undoing the memory upgrade and see if it stops crashing.
Is it SL crashing to the desktop or the whole computer crashing?
You might want to run with the debug console turned on and see if any useful messages appear.
You might also want to read the SL log files.
As always when SL doesn't work right you can try clearing the cache and uninstalling SL and re-installing it. If you have multiple versions of SL installed you might want to uninstall all of them before reinstalling.

I've crashed a few times on the newest FL client, both on Mac and Windows...normally the crashes are rare, but this FL seems prone...or perhaps it's something on the other end? who knows...

I don't know if I suffer the same problem; but I am on SL for about 5-6 weeks now and have always been crashing ....... Sometimes it happens every 5-10 minutes; sometimes once an hour.....
All kinds of crashes occur: sometimes SL just crashes and the desktop appears; sometimes the computer restarts automatically and sometimes the 'blue stopscreen' appears with different messages.
This happens mostly ehen I am on SL; when not on SL it happens maybe once a day or less.
Really don't know what it can be...................

Yes - I crash all the time. TPing logs me out or I can't TP at all. Places with lots of people - especially wearing that wonderful Calico hair (not sarcastc - I do like that hair, but it does slow everything down) - lags me terribly and often crashes me. But I heard there is to be an upgrade to better servers soon. My opinion - for what it's worth - is that the talent of many of the creators in the SL community outstrips that of both the program and the servers. But that has always been the case in the world of home computers. The creations of the artistic pushes the boundaries of the tools to their limits. It will happen again. If and when SL becomes more stable, the creators will begin to push to the gates of the new boundaries.

I crash every time I 'drop' an attachment instead of detatching it. Makes editing the things a bit of a pain in the ass (even more of a pain if I forget and 'drop' an attachment - and myself back to desktop...)

I wouldn't blame Best Buy so quickly. The manufactor might be responsible. Or it could simply be the type of memory may not be completely supported by your motherboard. I would check your manual for your computer and only install the recommended memory cards..........and sometimes you need to pay close attention to the mix of cards you install. My motherboard supports DDR and DDR2 cards with up to 667 FSB. And my manual specially tells me that I cannot mix the types but I can mix the bus speeds (but the lower speed will be the one that it will default to). I also have to observe where I put the cards.......if only one card is used then I can only use slot 1. But I use two or three cards with different speeds then it makes no difference what slot either is put in.
Memory is probably the simplest upgrade anyone can do...........but it sometimes it's critical of where and how you put the cards in.
