I spoke with a casino owner earlier today who happens to own a VERY LARGE and known casino that is STILL running inworld. I asked said owner how they are able to remain open when most of the others have shut down. Said owner stated to me that they have a license to legally run a casino inworld.

I personally think this is a bunch of you know what... what do you all think?

tell him to show you a copy of the license :)

at this point anyone who does have a casino license would have to display it anyhow assuming they can get one for a virtual world that most people never heard of but i suppose when applying for a casino license there may be some places that don't ask where the casino will be "exactly" dunno

Note that the words ".. without a license" do not appear in the TOS amendment.

It might be possible to get an RL casino license, but that wouldn't affect the TOS. The Lindens are not bound to allow all legal behaviours to be enacted in Second Life.

Probably he was just lying though ;)

I think it may take a few days to a few weeks to root them all out...the Gold Rushes were gone immediately.

Well what's the worst that can happen to him? He loses all his inworld assets? By announcing the ban overnight LL have already put a knife through the business model so if he gets a couple of days money, fair play to him.

His real world license doesn't get his SL machines inspected.

*sighs*

The reason LL banned gambling was due to the MULTIPLE lasw involving gambling across the globe. Even within the USA (the residing country of LL headquarters), the laws vary from state-to-state and even city-to-city.

LL can not possibly comply with every law agasint gambling throught the known world, so chose instead to ban it.

IF this casino operator has a RL license, he can use it to wipe his arse, because that's about it's worth here in SL.

Anyone running a casino with the gambling games officially listed is courting having all their SL assests siezed by LL, and they will have no recourse if LL would do such. Quite frankly, anyone doing so is one of the less intelligent persons on the grid.

I think that the casino owner wishes for *residents* to believe he has a license, so that the *residents* don't file an Abuse report, that's what I think.

I also think that some people are mistakenly thinking that he has an RL license (which wouldn't apply anyways), when the original post said "inworld" specifically.

I had someone open up a casino in the sky on my new island today. Not sure, but I think SL just opened up a black market.

Island owners beware - this affects you if a casino operator opens up on your land.

And yes, I specifically have it listed in my covenant - residential only. I sent the machines back.

Ehm... why exactly do you care if someone runs a casino somewhere? Is it in your neighbourhood and your home is lagged by the casino?

I see some bannings on the horizon.

RobbyRacoon - excellent interpretation, it makes the absolute most sense to me.

Ohh and LOL if he had a RL license, why would he need SL peanut change money?

Well, now that you mention it... if he really does have an RL license, public claims that it authorizes gambling online could very well get that license suspended. (And, if he had such a license, he wouldn't risk that, so probably it's all smoke to begin with.)

[edit: wait, he said he had a license to run gambling *in-world*? now that's just dopey.]
