I don't know if anyone else has noticed that an entire sim of the north island of the New Continent has been divided into 16m plots, most of which are for sale at 1000L$ each.

If it ends up as a whole sim of ad lots who will visit it? It might become a tourist attraction in its own right, I suppose. Trying to find a business or service there among 4096 plots of glowing, stacked and rotating cubes would be more difficult than using 'search', I'd have thought!

It looks like a faster way for a sim owner to lose money than standing on Orientation Island handing out money to newbies!!!!

Or am I missing something? !!!!! :)

Is it surrounded on all sides with other sims?

Is this some ad farm scheme on a Mass scale?, soon as people move in the next door sims ads sprout up ..

Youd think it would be more efficent to sell half of of a sim then convert the rest of the plots on it to ad farms.

It might blight the land around it in neighbouring sims - but then if that land remains unused and unwanted, few people will see the super ad farm anyway, assuming that anyone buys an ad plot!

Is'nt this something to do with that person wanting to be the first to make a million L$ or something like that just by selling Ad space? He wanted to be the first to fill a sim ?!? I cant remember where I read it, sounds crazy to me!

Someone did something similar in RL selling pixels so that a single web page became a mini ad farm where each tiny ad was a link that took you to a company's site.

But this isn't translatable to SL because the owner will have no control over the plots once sold - if he'd allowed each advertiser to have a cube with the ad on top, all the same size, it would have been possible to fly over the sim looking at the ads - but it will just be a jumble, most likely. Second thoughts, it probably won't be a jumble as there won't be many ads there!!!

I saw what I assume must be this sim. I was flying around with property lines on and YIKES! If it is the same sim (could there be two?) a linden roads run down the middle of it and several of the spots appeared sold when I came through. Also, there was a popluated PG sim next door that had an enourmous sign floating on the sim boundry stating that content visibale from their land needed to comply with PG regualtions.

Perhaps someone else could start taking advance orders for ad plots in a some future, possible 'world' game a bit like SL that hasn't even been thought of or designed yet!!!

If I'm not mistaken, and I'm not sure which sim everyone is talking about; but, all those 16m plots got consolidated. Seems the seller was taking advantage of the sales lag of several hours on the map to get noticed. Once shown on the map, he or she consolidated the little green squares into bigger plots. :/

There is no truth in advertising in SL as there are no regulations for it, and no one to enforce it.

yes, he states half the money is for red-cross (or something like that). but i don't think the ends justify the means.

it's like you've said Conifer, if he rented the spots and made people put the stuff in a certain way, all the same seen from the sky he might be more successful with it, but selling 16sq m for 1000 is not a great marketing strategy. he is loosing money, so why don't give that money in the first place to the red-cross?

And does anyone believe that the money is for charity? Any way to know for sure?

Basically..yeah. If there's a weakness in anything, eventually someone will find it, ask any hacker.

If it really is for charity then that's a good intention but I can't see the plots selling.
