Hi

When checking my land status, and the objects on it, I can see 3 objects are owned by a stranger.

I's like to be able to find these to see what they are, rather than just return them without knowing.

I know I can highlight all items owned by others, but this highlights a lot of stuff that has been placed there by a friend and the other person.

There are three users objects on the land - mine, my friends, and this thrid party.

I've done a full sweep of the land trying to locate them, to no avail and nothing looks out of the ordinary- i've even tried viewing transparent items.

Is there a script available that can at least get the names of the objects?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

If you click the 'refresh' button, a list of names will show below in the scrollable window, click on a name you don't know and it will highlight only the items belonging to them.

Thanks for your reply.

I have already tried that, and whilst the other residents objects show, nothing shows for the one's three objects i'm trying to find.

Have you looked around in the sky? They could be floating around up there.

Nope - just checked underground (using the debug menu to remove camera constraints), and still nothing...

It could be anywhere up in the sky well past 768m, invisiprim textures won't show on highlight transparent and level of detail makes it quite easy to miss small/tiny prims if you're not right on top of them.

They're probably just bullets from a newbie gun.

I'm not sure if this feature works anymore. I know it did last summer, but I haven't seen it working for months now.
To test this, I have an object on my land that is a "known" item on my list and when I try to highlight it, nothing happens....it used to make the objects glow.

I have run into the same situation as the OP. I know I can delete these foreign objects, but curiosity makes me want to see what they are.
Especially if they are evil in nature....I can take appropriate actions on the individual.

Usually its just a box or something a wandering soul laid on the ground for some odd reason

This used to happen to me until I discovered that enabling 'Select Only My Objects' in the Tools menu causes only my objects to highlight. I suppose this is a feature because it helps me find my objects that aren't set to the parcel's group. If you disable 'Select Only My Objects' then you should be able to highlight anybodies objects on your land.

Keep in mind that they might not be there at all...

I once checked the prims on my land and was horrified to discover that someone had over a hundred prims on my land

I searched high and low for them but couldn't find them. In the end I decided to just return them, but they didn't go!

Turned out to be a bug, SL had gotten a little bit confused and was giving me bad intelligence. So if you can't find them try to return then. If they won't return then they're ghosts, it should sort itself out fairly quickly.

I was just talking to a friend about this exact issue. Several things you can do:
  1. Others have already mentioned the highlighting that you can do in the Objects tab of about land.
  2. There's an item you can get called 'TrashFinder' which travels randomly around your land (like a roomba) looking for objects. It IMs you the name, owner, and coordinates of everything it finds.
  3. There's another item called the Lag Finder which sends particle streams to scripted objects in the vicinity. I've used this to locate griefing items hidden underground, or very tiny things that were too small to notice with the highlighting option.
  4. Go to View > Beacons in the SL menu and you'll see a list of different kinds of objects you can pinpoint on your land. This doesn't just highlight them, but actually spears them with long-reaching X/Y/Z vertices so you can tell where they are even if you're far above or below them.

Note that the last two won't find ALL objects, because they only look for certain criteria (is the object scripted? Does is generate sound? etc.), but they're darn helpful for tracking down griefer litter, because that stuff's typically scripted.

Don't bother using only your camera to look around for the highlight objects - the level of detail issue (I think that is what it is called) will result in objects beyond a certain distance appearing to be absent.

You have to move around yourself since SL only renders things that are relatively close to you. I have tried to set y draw distance to 512 and have missed objects while simply using the camera to look around.

Also note that the highlight option does not highlight Linden plants.

A quick fix might be to write a simple script that uses llSensorRepeat and attach it. Fly around and use code in the sensor event to determine the object's position (check the scripting tips forum for pointers). This works pretty well, assuming that you can cover all of your land and sky up to 768m.

(you could also get the attachment to scan - move - on its own, but that can be a pain if your lot is not parallelogram-based-shaped)

I'd post the basic script here, but I am too lazy to save it anywhere and write and debug the script when I need it :)

Looking at the profile of the owner of the items, I think you are probably right. He seems to be into fighting gaming etc...

Thanks to everyone for your help, I've returned the items to the owner and they have now gone - but learned a few good tips on the way :)
